The problems facing the world today are great, and will require the efforts of billions of people working together to overcome them. How could such an endeavor occur in one day? The answer is that change begins inside oneself. The great change-agent Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world”. Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves. Yet, once each individual is committed to change and acts upon that commitment, the world will change. First, I would raise awareness that each person needs to change. Ghandi understood that the beginning of change is awareness. We cannot change what we do not acknowledge. By becoming more aware, we begin the process of change. I would accomplish this by having an ad at the next Superbowl. This ad would advertise a person realizing his or her own mistakes and correcting them.This ad would represent a person being aware of themselves rather than every other thing around them. To be the change we want to see in the world, we don’t have to be loud, nor do we have to be eloquent or elected. We do, however, have to be committed. As a little boy, I remember receiving inequitable treatment. As naïve as I was, I never understood why I was treated so differently from the white children. As far as I was concerned, we were all the same; human. I remember constantly moving, and never residing in the same house for too long. I remember having to be cautious around potentially dangerous white people, everywhere I went, including those entrusted with the protection of our community.
My childhood was considerably the scariest time of my life – you never knew who to trust, what was good or bad, or what was correct in the eyes of the whites. My mind was struggling to grasp the nature of the sadistic ways of the world. The feelings I felt were inexplicable, as were those of other blacks growing up during the segregation period. I do not have children yet, but I hope and pray that the day I do, the world will be a changed place, for the better. I hope it will be clean of the racism that still plagues our world.

When my father gave his greatest speech for blacks, ‘I Have a Dream, it inspired them, gave them hope, and brought them peace. However, when the whites saw the hope that my father had given the blacks, they caused an uproar in wild, racist attacks, killing hundreds of black people. The hope that my father had given the blacks, inspired them to never stop fighting. In return, the whites took the life of the source of this hope, my father, Martin Luther King. Because they tried to prove their superiority, it showed us their perspective on the future and struck fear into our hearts. They used this fear against us and showed us that we could do nothing about it.
Throughout my years, I have acted in movies relating to my family and racism against blacks in times of segregation. I have written books about my youth and what it was like for my family, growing up in those strenuous times. I wrote about how we were middle-class citizens, of a higher rank than most African-Americans, and yet, were still mistreated. Although my efforts to raise awareness of racism may seem much, I still believe there is far more work to be done. Although we are no longer racially segregated, there is still an underlying difference between blacks and whites.
When my father shared his dream with the world to try to cleanse the world, and shape it to be a pure, equal, and fair place. He did it for the future black race, you, myself, and our future children. He did it because he saw that even after the Emancipation Proclamation was declared, there was still little to no change in American society. Even though my father died, he gave everything up for his family, his race, and his color. He was willing to die to prove that the world needed change.
We, as civil rights activists, should be more like my father. We need to do everything we can to change the world. If one man can change the world for the better, then why can we, as a people, not? Is it because we are black? Well, let me tell you, my dear brothers and sisters, as the good book says, we are all God’s children. Through his eyes, we are all equal. This should not change because of the color of our skin. I believe that, as blacks, if we stand tall, if we fight back in a manner in which the whites can see eye-to-eye, I believe that we can change the world and make it a better place. For me, for you, for our children, and for generations to come; pure from racism, forever!

My Plan to Change the World
My Plan to Change the World The world is gigantic, and many people live in it. That is why when someone says they want to make a change in the world; no one is willing to help. However, it’s a simple concept; it is very easy to make a difference. If we start with something small, and many people decide to help, then we can make a difference that will affect the world. Even small changes can affect the world because a small idea can influence other ideas, and influence others to want to help as well. Each person in the world should find a way to use their talents and knowledge to help our world. I was born in Brazil, and lived there until I was about nine years old. I learned, by watching, that there are more people that need help than people who are willing to help. Compared to the United States, Brazil is a poor country. There are many people living in the streets without homes; children without an education. Violence is a way of life there, because not everyone can get jobs. Some people need to steal in order to survive. Its absurd how there are so many problems that we need to end. I want to help my country as much as I can. In an environment with people who need so much help, it’s not a hard thing to support others. The problem is that people are unwilling to help. I have decided that I want to live my life helping others. My future is already planned. I want to live in America until I am done with college, then I want to move back to Brazil. There, I will work in universities teaching English and possibly Spanish (foreign languages). Separate from my work, I want to gather a group of people who live in the streets, and are in need of help. I will teach them English, and Spanish for free; that way the can obtain jobs. Also, outside from that, I will provide homes, food, and other basic necessities. My plan and only wish is to help others. I want my story to be about a girl who worked hard to study and make money to help others achieve success. I believe in being helpful to others not to be recognized but to affect people’s lives in a positive way, like the bible tells us to. I will also teach my group about the love of god, and the difference he can make in their lives. He inspired me to make this preparation. He has his own plans for each of our lives. We just have to seek him, and he will give us the strength we need to go on.. What I am going to do to help others is not going to affect the world by itself. Though, it may influence other ideas, as well as others to want to help. Small things you do for the world make simple differences, and little by little, our world will become an improved place to live in. I made a decision to help others, because I feel I have to give back to the world that has given me so many opportunities. If everyone decided to help, then we could all make the world a better world for all of us.
