Choosing a College Course

Many students find it difficult in choosing what course to take in college. For seniors or graduating high school students, the pressure goes higher as the end of their term is coming because the time is running and decreasing for deciding what course they will take. Choosing a course is really a hard decision to make. Your future depends on it and the decision you will make would determine what life you will have in the future. This is the first step in your life as an independent person and this is the first step for your success.

You should be careful in choosing a course because when you have started on it there is no way getting back.

You can shift to another course but a lot of thing will be wasted: your effort, money and time. So from the start you should pick the right one and you should make up your mind that this is the course for you and this will lead you to success.

Some might have chosen before and decided what to take but in the end they want to change it because they weren’t sure or still confused. And the wide range of choices of college courses made it more difficult to choose. But you are not really “clueless” in choosing what course to take, there are some factors you would consider and this might help you pick the suitable and best course for you.

At the present day, the educational system of upper secondary school resembles major parts of the already established system. The system compels students to study subjects considered important by the government. I highly disagree with the current school-system because of several reasons. I support the vision of students having themselves to choose their own courses.

First of all, I believe the working climate in general will be remarkably better as a result of the fact that the students most likely choose subjects they are really interested in. Thanks to that, the students will be more active and focused during lectures. They will work harder and be more prone to do their homework. They will study adequately and they will acquire knowledge more easily and knowledge will persist longer. Furthermore, when the students learn to appreciate studying, they will put more effort into studies which will result in preferable possibilities of achieving favored marks, which is satisfactory toward the students likewise their teachers. With own experience on hand, if a student is constrained to study plenty of subjects, which he or she is not even interested in, it will just make him/her feel tired and stressed. In many cases this leads to avoiding certain courses the students have no interest in, sometimes even giving up on school.

Secondly, since it is only the students who know what they are really good at, it seems fair that they should be given more freedom to choose their own courses. In fact it is very important for the students to choose their own subjects without reserve because they are the only ones who know what they are interested in, what they prefer and what they need. That is the main reason why they will pay more attention to the subjects which they are concerned about, they will work more by themselves and search for necessary information that relates to the course and potential future job.

On the other hand, I understand that some people believe schools should push the students to study for all-round development. The students can discover their interest through different subjects and also realise their full capabilities in areas they would never even come to think of. Of course, there would still be some negative side-effects of selecting courses freely, like in cases when teachers are known to give good grades for less challenging courses. On the contrary, there is always a different side and I find it essential for the school to guide the students among the most fundamental subjects.

In conclusion, I find it important that students in upper secondary school should have the opportunity to choose their own courses. The students are sufficiently mature to know what is best for themselves, if they obtain a limited assistance with selecting subjects and planning, they will have only good in return. Teachers should of course be strict and put some pressure on the students so they eventually start studying when they are supposed to. Obviously it is important to be all-round tutored for the future but I would say that it is better to concern about things that is going to be really useful in the future instead of learning about useless subjects. The question is: Would it not be better if all students in upper secondary school and above had the complete freedom to choose their own subjects?

Your Personal Interests

The most basic consideration in the choice of a college major or college course is, of course, what you want. Is there something that you’ve always wanted to get into, something that resonates within the very fiber of your being? If so, that may be where you’re meant to go. The more interested you are in a subject, the more likely you are to study it and achieve a strong result. This is particularly important at college when you are responsible for your own study. List the fields of study that interest you, and come up with a list of courses you would consider studying based on these interests.

Add the topics that you were most interested in during school as well as jobs that you envied others for. At some point, many students try to fit in a course or two based purely on personal interest. While their majors may reflect their primary interest, most people are interested in more than one intellectual pursuit, so a biology major who has a passion for movies might take a film course. This is not necessarily what are you good at, but what do you love doing? You might be great at math, but you spend your weekends fixing up bits of old computers. So don’t study math, focus on IT or computer engineering instead. Specialize in your passion.

Cost Of Study

Affordability is another aspect you need to consider while deciding on your course, as well as the additional costs that occur, such as text books, field trips etc. However, do not let cost hamper your career choice, as there are a number of financial assistance options available to complete the course.

College tuitions soar each year, advancing far in excess of the inflation rate. The overall inflation rate since 1986 increased 115.06%, which is why we pay more than double for everything we buy. On the other hand, during the same time, tuition increased a whopping 498.31%. See chart below

Many schools have increased tuition fees due to higher overhead costs. Fuel and labor costs continue to rise. Many older college buildings are in need of renovation or replacement. The demand for expanded libraries and new research and computer labs is at an all-time high. Some schools also need additional security measures. But Don’t Let College Costs Scare You!

These costs may seem overwhelming, but there are ways to keep expenses down. Remember that college educations come at all levels of cost, and that financial aid can reduce that cost. If a school is a great fit for you but seems too expensive, it makes sense to apply and then see whether your financial aid offer will bring the cost down. Don’t give up on a college because of its sticker price.

Financial Aids

Grants and scholarships are the most desirable types of funding you can receive to pay for your college education, since they don’t need to be repaid. While any amount of free money will be competitive, especially in a tough economic climate, the sooner and more often you apply the more luck you’ll have.

The list of reasons why a scholarship may be given to a particular student is quite long, although some of the more popular awards are given to students who achieve academically, are athletically gifted, choose to enroll in a particular program of study, are part of a certain kind of organization, or choose to enroll in the military and still further their education.

A scholarship might cover the entire cost of your tuition, or it might be a one-time award of some cash. Either way, it’s worth applying for, because it’ll help reduce the cost of your education.

Career opportunities

Look at the career prospects of the course before selecting one. Consider various factors such as income, job security, stress, responsibility and other benefits while researching a profession. Not all courses are created equal. Yes, they all offer a diploma upon completion, but they don’t guarantee a job. When you are choosing a major, it would be wise to check out the job placement statistics of others who have pursued this degree. There is no reason why you should be the guinea pig; if a specific career is your reason for choosing this major, investigate the success of others. If you want to avoid a data entry position, check out all of the opportunities available and your chance at landing one of those positions after graduation.

Commitment, Time and Practical Considerations

Choosing a college course requires you to look inwards and assess your commitment to your chosen path. Assuming that you have the issue of money and other practical considerations settled, do you actually possess the skills and the patience to go the distance? Moreover, do you actually want to do so? There’s also a chance that your parents may be expecting you to tread a certain academic path; will you have the strength and the will to stick it out against all odds?

You should also be aware of what you’re getting into when choosing a college major. What will your college course require you to do? Are you willing to do it? As a case in point, if you’re squeamish about the sight of blood, why should you decide to go for a Nursing Degree? To be certain that you will be committed to your studies, find out the duration of your course. Taking double-degrees, full time or part-time depends on your personal choice. Ensure that you will be able to balance your other priorities along with education. Study flexibility varies amongst universities.

If your goal is to be employed immediately after graduation, base your choice not on popular courses, but on employable courses, or courses that are the most in-demand in the job market. Job seeking is becoming an increasingly competitive sport these days. With thousands of students graduating each year and limited number of job opportunities available to them, plenty of job seekers end up resorting to options they wouldn’t had to choose if they had other alternatives. These days, there is no time to get into a career and then decide if it is the right one for you. You should know right from the beginning what is right for you and what career you can excel in. Thanks to the very competitive nature of the employment sector, getting the right job or choosing the right career is not as easy as it once used to be.

Everyone is looking for help in deciding what career should be chosen. Obviously, in today’s competitive world, everyone wants a job or career that has high pay, job stability, and great future prospects. However, owing to the bad effects of the recently experienced economic recession, a majority of people are looking forward to changing careers. The careers that are being sought after are top jobs in demand for the future, which are mostly from the medical field. The main reason why medical jobs are and will be in demand is because they do not have any impact of the financial crisis arising in the economy. So if you want to secure a job in the future, pick a course that is in demand after you graduate.

Even you have known some things that you might consider in choosing a course, the choice is still yours and the one who will decide is no other but you. Choose on what you think is the best for you and what you think that will give you success. But remember that even you have chosen a course that is qualified for all the factors listed and will give great results, it not ends in there. The most important thing is in everything you do always give your best shot. Work hard for everything you want to achieve and accomplish. Don’t quit and never give up. And most of all ask God for help and guidance in everything you do. Pray for it. God has the best plan for you. When you do all these things, I’m sure that whatever course you will take, you will be successful and you will have a wonderful future.

What makes one college course more enjoyable than another.

Unquestionably, college courses provide students with a great variety of learning opportunities. However, proper mastery of particular courses much depends on the student’s motivation. Therefore, most students focus on the courses relevant to their future professions. Social studies are popular with the students of human faculties, while technical courses will get more appreciation among the students of IT, engineering and computer departments. Besides mastering specialization courses, it is, however, rather important to obtain universal knowledge in various supplementary subjects listed in the curriculum. This means that college courses provide a wide scope of studies that develop students both as intelligent individuals and future professionals.

Much will also depend on the teaching approaches applied by the professors to properly present course materials to the students. Considering this, students can obtain behaviorism, cognitivism, or constructivism studying approaches. Among these three core learning paradigms, the latter approach seems the most effective one, since during the teaching process instructors apply various visual and illustrative materials, examples and cases in order to support and extend the theoretical knowledge of the students.

Statistics figures indicate that the popularity of college courses much depends on the market demand for each profession in particular. Naturally students choose the most wanted studies that will benefit them financially in the future. In other words, some courses are more popular than others because of the pragmatic concerns. Most college students understand that time and money invested in college education will determine their social role and status in the future. Therefore, college education is directly related to the market realities. In such a way, one can conclude that the reputation of college courses is shifted by market demand rather than educational preferences of students.

Colleges are prioritizing more of their time and money to attract students, rather colleges should prioritize their time and money towards bettering the students education. An earnest student would pay less attention to how the university looks like, instead an earnest student would look into which universities offered the best programs and classes. For students, college has become a place where they can kickback and chill in, preferably it should be a place for students to experience and find new discoveries. Although it is important to have a college that provides a warm atmosphere, it is also equally as important to provide a college that offers variety of classes and programs which students can choose

Synthesis Essay On Attending College

A rising issue in today’s society is deciding whether or not college is worth the cost. There is an extreme amount of pressure that is forced upon high school students by parents, teachers, and peers to further their education and attend college. However, there is research that challenges the thought that college is the best possible path for a person to take. College may be a great investment for some people, but it is not meant for everyone. This is supported by the arguments that colleges are expensive, jobs do not always require a college degree, and students are forced to choose a lifestyle before being exposed to the real world.

Essay On College Isn T For Everyone

If anyone has ever went to high school, then they have heard about college. Everyone has a different point of view on the idea of college. Part of it depends on how someone was raised. If a person’s parent or guardian drilled the idea of college into your head, or if they told you ‘do what you want’ or ‘I don 't care’, or ‘You’re not going’. Before making the decision to attend California University of Pennsylvania, I was looking into what career was best for me, and what I wanted to achieve in my educational career. This was a lengthy and difficult process, but in the end, it led me to the path I am traveling today as a student at California University of Pennsylvania.

Argumentative Essay: Why People Should Not Go To College

People should not go to college because is difficult to find out what career choice as a result of the inexperience and little information, the potential loans are overwhelming, and the huge necessity to start working immediately after school. In fact, many high school students go to college because it is expected of them, but that is not a good reason to go. If the students are facing pressure from their parents, friends, or teachers to attend college, but they do not feel ready. A person who wants to attend college should not take on such a large financial and time commitment just to please other people. College is expensive, and it does not make sense to spend money on a college degree if they are unsure of their path. To

Financial Aid In College Essay

In today society, people have placed a high value on education; many believed that with a higher education they could obtain a better job. Many jobs are now requiring employee to have some sort of educational degree. The cost of college has increase 3 times faster than inflation (Baum, Payea 7). Financial aid is defined in the Merriam-Webster as “money that is given or lent to students in order to pay for their education”(“Financial aid”). As a result, many students have to rely on financial aid to pay for their college expense. However, not all students received the amount of aid they need to pay for college admission. When students don’t have the aid to cover the expense they will have to change their choice of college. The amount of financial aid student received effect the students in college by determining where the student will attend, whether or not the student have to obtain a job to be financially stable, and the amount of loan students end with after graduating.

Caroline Bird Case Against College Education

First, Caroline Bird shares her belief that “a college experience that piles option on option …merely adds to the contemporary nightmare.” Although too many options are sometimes overwhelming, limiting choices would also create undue pressure for students. For instance, as a student, I am exposed to several options: what classes I should take, what major I should major in, what professors I should take, etc. This allows me control over my education, so I can avoid being pressured into a class or a major that is not right for me. As a matter of fact, author Virginia N. Gordon found statistical evidence that about 75 percent of students change their major at least once before graduation (Freedman). The ability to explore different paths will ultimately comfort students because they know their major is out there somewhere. By being able to pick from a variety of majors, students do not have to worry about wasting their money by being forced into a major. For this

Here’s what Students Are Saying About My Courses

I didn't know how to write an essay at all, but by taking this course now I really know how to write one. It encouraged me to think about the challenges I've faced in my life and their impact on me. The first exercise made me to go and look at my Scrapbook and photos and this really made me happy. This course helped me in writing an essay while bringing my memories back, which made me realize that I'm capable of reaching my goals and I'm strong. -Ana, Student 2017
"The past week, was more of a journey than a tutorial for my personal statement. Before the course, I was looking outwards for inspiration. My week with Ethan taught me to find inspiration within myself, but best of all, he provided me the tools to put it on paper." -Jonathan, Student (2017)
"I feel like I've learned how to crystallize my most important core values in a ridiculously small word limit, which is a unique skill I wouldn't have learned otherwise. In the process of taking this course and learning from Ethan, I really feel like I've learned so much about myself . I think you'll come away from this course with a new outlook on both the college process and yourself." - Sarah (2018)
" Before this course , I had one extracurricular activity that overlapped in all four of my personal insight question. Afterwards I was amazed how the beabies, feelings and needs exercise, and example essays helped me discover aspects of myself that I never thought I'd feel comfortable talking about. Now all four of my essays focus on different aspects of me which I'm proud of ." -Shazaib S, Student

Final Reflective Essay

At the beginning of the course, I was new to college writing. My writing skills were not bad, but they needed some fine tuning. A lot of the skills I have translated over easily from high school, but some did not. I was always good at getting information and laying down a foundation. Alongside that, I’ve always found writing easy once I have that base. Filling out the main ideas were simple. However, once I arrived in college it was apparent to myself that I needed more detail, and that it was something I lacked. It needed improving, but it was not a hard fix. Sometimes it is hard for me to understand why some writing needs more detail but others do not. This class has helped me fix that issue a bit, while also strengthening my proficiency in other areas. Throughout the semester, I have completed assignments that have increased my skills, and broadened my sense as a writer in different areas. By taking this class, I have been able to develop rhetorical knowledge, develop critical thinking, reading, and information literacy, develop effective strategies for drafting texts, and develop knowledge of conventions.

This class has helped me develop rhetorical knowledge by analyzing and composing multiple forms of writing to understand how genre conventions shape readers’ and writers’ practices and purposes. This means that I have been able to analyze different types of writing in order to understand how a genre affects how an author writes, and how the reader reads. One assignment that comes to mind that helped me achieve this outcome was our advertisement analysis assignments. In class, we spent time looking at different advertisements, and how they appealed to certain audiences. We all had to bring an advertisement to class, and analyze it ourselves, pointing out what techniques the ads were using, if they were effective or not, and who were they targeting. This assignment helps develop rhetoric as it allowed me to understand how the category of advertisement writing can differ from not only other genres, but other ads as well.

Rhetoric knowledge was also developed by practicing purposeful shifts in structure, content, diction, tone, formality, design, and/or medium in accordance with the rhetorical situation, which means to be able to change your writing to reflect the rhetorical situation at hand. This was not the result of one assignment, but many. During the course we were asked to write different essays that reflected different styles of writing. From storytelling and analyzation, to infographics and research assignments, I have been able to change how I write in order to meet the requirements. For example, in the literacy narrative, I had to write to convey a story. This means using traditional elements of a story, such as a beginning, middle, climax, and resolution, along with elements such as foreshadowing. This style of writing is different from an image analysis essay, where the purpose is mostly informative rather than anecdotal. In this case, elements such as facts, context, and comparison are common, and story like elements would not be appropriate here. I display that I have met this outcome by understanding how to write in those genres and how to keep it appropriate.

Another outcome this class has helped me meet is developing critical thinking, reading, and information literacy by composing and reading for inquiry, learning, critical thinking, and communicating. One such way I have met this outcome is by writing journals almost every class about different things. Every so often we had to write a journal about our thoughts about either our writing skills, how we defined different terms, and our reflections on our assignments. By completing these journals, I was able to look back on certain assignments, and learn how I was able to accomplish what I did. This style of writing is helpful because of its creative nature, and allows myself to become better as a writer.

Two more ways I was able to develop my critical thinking, reading, and information literacy skills was by using outside materials in their own writing through techniques such as interpretation, synthesis, response, critique, and design/redesign, and incorporating outside materials through quotations, paraphrase, and summary. By completing the image analysis essay, I was able to meet the outcome about using outside materials in your own writing. I used two advertisements in the essay, and analyzed how they were done, and who they targeted, in order to compare and contrast them at the end. I appropriately commented on their effectiveness, and how they could have improved. Speaking of using outside materials, my research essay demonstrated the outcome related to using paraphrase due to the nature of the assignment. By using outside sources, I was able to make my argument stronger, and I was able to improve as a writer because my skill to read and take information away improved.

The third outcome this class helped me to achieve was to develop effective strategies for drafting texts by working through multiple drafts of a project and recognizing the role of reflecting, revising, and editing in the process, engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes, such as learning to give and to act on productive feedback to works in progress, both by and with peers and in one-on-one instructor conferences, and critically reflecting on how they may further develop and apply writing skills in the future. The first outcome was reached simply through the rough drafts of each project. I usually had to brainstorm first, but afterwards, I was able to just write in order to get the information down. It had quite a few flaws to begin with, but during editing, most of them were ironed out easily. The second outcome was achieved through peer review. This was something I had always struggled with because I did not know how to do it. After learning, I saw how important it was. It allowed me to see mistakes my brain would have never saw, and let me see what my most common mistake were, which then allowed me to know what to avoid when writing. By reviewing other’s works, I was able to see common writing errors in general, and thus gave me information about what to avoid. The last outcome was achieved through peer review reflection. This is self-explanatory, but being able to reflect on the advice given is helpful. Mostly because it allows you to take a step back, and go over everything. You can see what you did well, and what you need to avoid in the future. This way, in future endeavors, the same mistakes will hopefully not be made.

The last outcome this class helped me to achieve was to develop knowledge of conventions by demonstrating competence in grammar, punctuation, and spelling, practicing genre conventions for structure, paragraphing, tone and mechanics, and understanding the concepts of intellectual property that motivate documentation conventions through application of recognized citation styles. The first two outcomes are rather similar, in the regard that most of the assignments help reach this outcome. Grammar will never change in writing, so it is important to get it write initially. The only assignment that really tested this was peer review. Being able to recognize sentences that do not make sense is helpful, and will help a writer catch confusing or contradicting statements. As for practicing genre conventions, almost every project helped display that. Writing paragraphs and formatting them correctly is easy, so there is not reason to drag on about this point. Lastly, the assignment that helped reach the outcome about citing intellectual property was the research assignment. It is important to cite your sources so that you do not plagiarize someone’s work, and jeopardize your own academic career. The research assignment helped because you had to find sources for you argument, and as a result, citations would follow.

During the course, I was faced with a few assignments where I had to write day by day, and not just in one day. Writing is not something to do, but rather a process that you have to follow in order to succeed. Many of the different assignments helped improve my skills in rhetoric, critical thinking, drafting, and conventions. While some did not improve much, others did exponentially. The work is not perfect, but for a beginner in college, it shows that I am willing to put in the time and effort to become more than just a beginner. As I progress through school, I hope to not only maintain these skills, but improve them also. Writing is not something that you leave behind after leaving school, so it is important that I take these skills not only with me for the next four years, but for the rest of my life. If I succeed in doing that, then I will always be prepared for any assignment that my field of interest throws at me.

Choosing a Major and a Career Path Essays

Peter LoDuca 11/30/12 First Year Seminar Ms. Watson Majors and Career Essay In today’s world, people are living for a purpose, a meaning that they may or may not know. People of all sorts from teenagers to adults are still trying to find themselves today. They don’t exactly know whom they are, what they want to do with their lives or what they were meant to do. It is important that when the opportunity presents itself, you take advantage of it and start exploring the possibilities and discover what is out there for you. The majority of the time your college years are the first steps in choosing a major and career path that will carry you on for the rest of your life. My name is Peter LoDuca and I am a freshman attending Gallaudet University. Born and raised on Long Island, I am a hearing impaired student – athlete that attended the Village School in Great Neck, NY. Growing up as a hard of hearing student and mainstreamed into public school I always had difficulties hearing and capturing what was going on in class. However, I maintained a high academic average throughout my years in middle and high school, but I was never able to really enjoy my time at school because of the struggle that I had to endure everyday. As I began to start thinking about my future I questioned myself and tried to figure out how I was going to set a plan that would work out and be the best for me. Once I heard about Gallaudet University, I knew better things were going to be coming my way. After visiting the campus, touring and sitting in on some classes I decided at that very moment, the university was the place for me. Ever since I was a young child, I always relied on my visual rather than on my hearing. If anybody asked me what kind of learner I would consider myself, it would be visual. In matter of fact, according to the VAK Learning Styles website, the survey I took classified me as a visual learner. The website talks about how visual learners absorb information and the way they think amongst themselves. Visual learners rely on diagrams, charts, instructional videos and pictures to gain knowledge on different kind of subjects. Here at Gallaudet, the whole campus including faculty members, staff, teachers and students rely on sign language to communicate with each other and learn. My academic as well as my social life was the perfect fit for this school, which would allow me to do the things I do by minimizing the stress. Another reference that assessed my skills and classified me into specific groups was the MBTI. The survey asked questions based on learning skills, preferences and our comfort zones. After the completing the survey, I was classified as an extrovert, sensing, thinking and perceiving student. These different learning styles are a part of who I am and how I go about doing things. My learning styles allow me to create goals, meet my standards and to strive to continue raising my own bar. At the age of 5 years old, I already knew what I wanted to become and do for a living once I got older. I wanted to be a professional baseball player. Every night I would dream the life of a big league ball player, how much fun the game is and the luxury of being able to play the game for a living. Growing up as a kid I always admired and looked up to Derek Jeter as a role model. He sets an example for his team, on and off the field. Jeter is a leader in the business industry and supports himself with income from different sources besides baseball. The way he has established himself as a baseball player and a man is indescribable. There was a point in my life though, where I realized that you couldn’t play the game forever. Eventually a playing career comes to an end as your body starts to age. I gave myself a reality check and started to prepare a back up plan. Besides baseball, my passion is politics and government. I love watching political debates on T.V or the Show More

College Students Should Choose Their Own Courses

There has been a number of debates as to whether college students should be given the opportunity to choose their courses. Like any contentious subject, while others are of the opinion that, courses should be chosen for college students, others believe that, students should be given complete freedom to choose the courses they would love to study. When students join college, they are forced to study for subjects they do not want to. Many students complain that they are not allowed to choose subjects they are interested in; rather, they are forced to take compulsory subjects. In addition, students complain that, they are forced to spend their entire years in college doing things they really do not need . This is very wrong because, college students should have more freedom to choose their own courses for several reasons. To start with, students are always interested in studying different subjects, and they love courses they choose to study. Moreover, if students are allowed to study the courses they choose, it will be easy for them to concentrate and work hard so as to excel in this subjects. College students should be allowed to choose their courses because they will study more comfortably. Students will spend a lot of their time studying and researching more on the chosen course in order to excel. They will understand the course very well because; it is what they are interested in. In addition, if college students are given a chance to choose the subjects they want to study, they will be more eager to attend classes because, they love what there are dong. This means, many college students will excel I their studies. Thy will put a lot of effort in their studies and get best results because, they are comfortable with the course. Students need a chance to choose what courses to take, and as the result, they will get better marks, which is satisfactory both for them as well as for their teachers. Students know what they are good at, so they should be given an opportunity to do what they are good. This can only be done by allowing them to choose courses they are good at, and are interested in. Essentially, it is vital that college students should be allowed to choose their courses because; only they know what they are interested in and what they need. Majority of students pay more attention to the subjects they are interested in and this is the reason why, when joining college, they will want to pursue a course in the subjects.

I know how you feel...

Your days are jam-packed with challenging classes and extracurriculars, and now you’ve gotta apply to college on top of that 🤯 you’ve got a ton of pressure to get into college and make yourself and your family proud, but honestly… you just have no idea how. 😭 you have no clue where to begin, so you procrastinate even starting. 😳 you’ve tried drafting your college essays, but every time they just sound so… bland. ☹️ you’re beginning to think that you just aren’t unique enough to get into your dream schools. 😢, your mind is swirling with questions, but you’ve got no one to answer them., 🤨 how do i avoid sounding cliché and instead stand out 🤨 do i really have to sell my pain as a “sob story” to get into college that feels icky 🤨 how do i create college essays that feel authentic instead of braggy, and sooner or later…, you become trapped in a time-wasting cycle of scrapping and rewriting poor essay drafts., the stress increases, your well-being takes a toll, and college applications live on in your mind as literal h, e, double hockey sticks. (believe me, i’ve been there.) let's face it., college essay strategy is not taught in most high schools... yet it can literally make or break an application., let’s cut the rumors & misconceptions that float in the hallways, yeah.

I don’t have a unique story to tell.

So you’re telling me you didn’t cure cancer or go through a seriously traumatic event? Neither did I, and I got into every school I applied to! Real talk: Your achievements and challenges do not define you. Everyone has a story to tell, no matter how big or how small. Sometimes, the most meaningful essays come from the smallest moments. You could make your whole essay about a trip to the grocery store! (And yes, someone has successfully done that.)

When you engage in deep self-reflection and use the right strategy, you can turn any story into a compelling college essay., sorry to break it to you, but while gpa can get you in the door, it won’t set you apart . there will be students with the same scores & activities as you... but no one has your story. most colleges in the u.s. use a process called “ holistic review ”. they take several factors into consideration to gain a full picture of who you are. we’re talking empirical data like gpa, scores, and achievements, but also personal qualities like leadership, intellectual vitality, and emotional intelligence. you are literally given a “personal rating” in admissions (say what) numerous schools across the u.s. (especially the more competitive ones) classify your “ character/personal qualities ” as “ very important ” or “ important ” in their admissions statistics. (trust me, i dug through tons of common data sets to prove it.) and what’s the number 1 driver of your personal rating you guessed it, college essays ., tldr: many students underestimate the importance of the personal rating, but every year it’s becoming increasingly important – especially with test-optional policies..

Grades and scores matter more in college admissions.

Let’s flip this false belief right on its head: With my 3-Step Process, you will actually SAVE at least 3 hours a week. (Wait… really??) Yup, this course is carefully designed to best utilize your time every step of the way.

Without proper strategy, you will find yourself….

You can craft a dazzling admissions essay with only 1 hour of writing a day, and I’ll show you how.

Imagine what it would be like to strategize, write, and submit phenomenal college essays for ANY prompt (with ease).

🤩 a sneak peek into your future…, 🔥 approach your essays with expert strategy – feeling stress-free and having fun along the way, 🔥 complete your applications early – with extra time to cherish your friendships before splitting off in different directions., 🔥 submit your applications with confidence – knowing you did everything in your power to create the future you desire., 🔥 strengthen your knack for storytelling, organization, and time-management – skills that will benefit you for the rest of your life., 🔥 repurpose your excellent essays – and win thousands of dollars in scholarships., i’ve helped students around the world achieve exactly this. and i can’t wait to show you how too..

A BIG thank you for creating this course. It has helped me become more comfortable with sitting myself down and learning more about myself. I feel more connected and in-tune with myself now that I have completed the admissions process. The "things I feel vulnerable about" part honestly brought me to tears. It’s helping me become more comfortable with facing things that I otherwise buried deep. VERY thorough instructions and doesn't feel like work when solving the workbook. Thank you Dyllen!

This course was a huge lifesaver that made me excited to work on my application ! It has allowed me to have fun and be creative during a time that tends to be filled with stress over college applications. Every lecture you have written out was super helpful and constructive . It was worth the money . Thank you 🙂

College applications are difficult, especially when you have no one to guide you through the process and lack exposure to information. Essays that I would never dare to write without her help. Dyllen, I am so grateful you are helping many disadvantaged and less fortunate high school students like me in many countries. The course helped me so much throughout my college application process. It really allowed me to add structure to the process and identify what I needed to work on . The workbook was amazing at helping me organize my ideas and evaluate what I truly wanted to convey in my essays . The videos and curriculum integrated into the course really helped me tell my story and be proud of my writing. It was definitely worth it! I would recommend it!

Honestly, I absolutely LOVED IT!!! It was extremely helpful in helping me organize my college list and most definitely helped me figure out which values and qualities I wanted to highlight in my essays . It was also really colorful and aesthetically pleasing.

It was a one-stop shop , which was much easier rather than miscellaneous TikToks, Youtube videos, and books. It helped me start and give me some inspiration. It also helped me learn how to revise my own work.

I was not used to talking about myself through words and I didn't know if my story was impactful, nor if it was worth sharing. But being a recipient of a scholarship to enroll in this course was extremely helpful. I learned to brainstorm, choose my topics strategically, construct my ideas, analyze the impact on me and others, and create an essay that portraits my voice. Dyllen was amazing by giving free resources and creating this course. I appreciate all the time invested in this huge project and hopefully, it will continue to grow to help other students as it helped me .
