Kindness Is Magic
By Lila Drowos, age 10, Florida.
K indness, whether it’s you being kind to someone, or someone being kind to you, can make you happier and healthier. Even small acts of kindness can change a life and make you feel better. But can kindness also be good for you, the person you’re kind to, and even others around you? Can it keep you healthy and relaxed? What exactly are the benefits of kindness?
The good feelings you get when kindness is happening are created by endorphins, pleasure chemicals that are connected with joy and pleasure, social connection, trust, smiling, laughter, and love, which can also come from doing an act of kindness. Kindness also helps us form meaningful relationships and connections, making strong friendships and bonds with others. Being kind can reduce stress as well, which makes you healthier and calmer, and creates pride, belief and confidence in yourself, and a sense of belonging.
Kindness can also help you learn to appreciate the good things in your own life. It can help you be more grateful. It’s always good to have some gratitude for the good things in your life, rather than focusing on the bad. Kindness can also boost your creativity and help you have a better imagination and ideas which can produce better results in school. It can also reduce the effects of bullying. And there’s the ripple effect, treating others how you want to be treated. If you’re kind to someone, they could go and help someone else, spreading kindness and helping the world become better, happier, and healthier. Witnessing acts of kindness can also produce other chemicals in your body that help lower your blood pressure and improve your overall heart-health. It can also give you optimism and extra confidence, which is extra helpful when you’re anxious or shy in any situation.
Kindness strengthens your heart physically and emotionally and it can help you live longer, and prevent illness. Also, serotonin levels, the feel-good chemicals in our brains are increased in both the person being kind and the person receiving the kindness, as well as anyone who witnesses that kindness.
Kindness is a wonderful way to feel happier and healthier for everyone!
“I am a fifth grade student and I attend a religious day school where I am learning about my Judaism. Being Jewish is really important to me because it connects me to my family and community. I am also learning to speak Hebrew in my school, which is a language traditionally spoken by Jewish people. We have different values and traditions and I am really interested in learning about the history of my people, and how it has shaped our beliefs as a community.
One of the things that are important in Judaism is our focus on Tzedakah, which is the Hebrew word for charity. Kindness is very important to me and I like to help others. Some of my favorite ways to volunteer and give charity include preparing and delivering food to people that don’t have any, collecting supplies to donate to people in need, and picking holiday presents for families that can’t get them.
Another important value in Judaism is Tikkun Olam, which means making the world a better place. Helping the environment and protecting it is very important to me as well. I care about sea creatures that get harmed by eating plastic that blew into the ocean, as well as land creatures that may eat trash. Recycling and reducing waste are ways that anyone can help, and take care of our planet, which is very important.

When I think about what Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam have in common, they are both rooted in kindness. Kindness is a way of achieving a better world and making the planet that we live on a better place. I wrote my essay in honor of World Kindness Day, which was on Friday, November 13 th this year. To me, kindness is very connected to my Jewish values and is something I want to teach others about.”

A perfect society would be a climate in which random kindness was a natural part of everybody’s everyday life. The deed not only affects the person who is directed towards goodness but also experiences a sense of relief and joy in performing an act of kindness. Kindness is a trait that includes such aspects as love, smile, offer, care, empathy, etc. In dark days, friendliness is like a light for you and it brightens the dim stuff. Kindness is expressed in different ways by various people, but it still has a wish to do good not because it is demanded, but because you are feeling it. It occurs instinctively, but only on the heart’s call. Sometimes our modern mind blocks such emotional expressions.
Mother Teresa: “We cannot achieve big stuff on this planet, only little with big affection.”

- Essay On How The Magic Of Kindness Helped Me Survive The Holocaust
Essay on How the Magic of Kindness Helped Me Survive the Holocaust
By considering this Ted Talk essay, the video called “How The Magic of Kindness Helped Me Survive the Holocaust” tells the story of a Jew. This man had enjoyed an act of kindness while staying at the Auschwitz camp. When he was an adolescent, a compassionate man taught him a life-changing magic trick. Hence, it is essential to treat scared people kindly as evidence from a story by Werner Reich, who overcame a challenging fate, reached happiness, and became a decent narrator.
Reich’s Challenging Fate
The most prominent aspect of the analyzed video is the storyteller’s challenging fate and attention to detail. Werner Reich survived World War 2 and lost his family at a very young age (00:06:59-00:07:30). However, he did not become desperate and started to seek new opportunities in other countries. Basically, this talk inspires those experiencing difficulties in finding happiness in the little things. Such an approach shows that treating people kindly in hard situations is the best way to make them feel better and see bright moments through dark ages.

Kindness Boosts Happiness
The most interesting part of the video was the story about how a stranger from the concentration camp made an imprisoned boy happy. Brodrick says that “being kind to ourselves or to anyone else — yes, even a stranger — or actively observing kindness around us boosted happiness” (par. 5). In this case, Herbert Levine’s magic trick was probably the only joyful moment in the boy’s life at that moment, and he could have neglected it under other circumstances. However, Reich values this experience and perceives his past as something that made him the person he is today.
Werner Reich as a Narrator
Although the narrated story is sad, including more jokes in it can make the audience emotionally closer to the performer. To be persuasive, an author should touch the hearts of listeners, which makes them emotionally involved in the narrative (Hoeken et al. 294). Reich shares a unique experience that helped him overcome severe crises, but he poorly connects it to great achievements in his life after the genocide. It would have been interesting to understand how exactly he implemented the acquired knowledge in the future occupation. Hence, the story has not been finished as it does not leave any questions for discussion.
The author is not biased against something in the analyzed video because he does not have any commercial or personal interest in distorting the plot. He was sincerely sharing an example of how kindness saved his life and why he values this quality the most, which is an effective way to win the public’s respect (Stiff and Mongeau 150). The main message of this talk was to be kind to people when they struggle in life. Such an approach does not only make them smile for a moment, but it also gives them hope for better times.
Kindness made Reich a compassionate person who is not afraid of life difficulties and has become a happy man, which is why it is important to be kind to scared individuals. He enjoys small things in life and calls other people to be supportive of one another. The story lacks some intriguing finale and persuasiveness due to the poor connection with the audience. However, Werner Reich has clearly and passionately delivered his primary message.

The Magic of Kindness

Kindness is magic.. It is a warm glow that uplifts the heart and nurtures the soul. We are social creatures and we rely on the milk of human kindness. It is simple yes, but too eluding in this world. It is all too rare and oh so beautiful like a lone purple wildflower among a sea of indifferent green.
As I’ve grown older I appreciate simple acts of kindness more and more.
There are two sides to kindness; the giving and the receiving. Both teach us valuable and distinct lessons and at some point in our lives we will have experienced each side to varying degrees.

I have found those who have suffered the most, endured the most, to be some of the most understanding, generous and kindest people I’ve ever met, but that road is not easy, these are the exceptional ones, the stronger ones, there are others, ones that have fallen by the wayside. The ones that society is all to eager to overlook. There are those with hard outer shells forged out of fear, the ones that seem too tough to crack. They may be gruff, indifferent or just plain mean. All of them are human beings and nine times out of ten all they need is some simple human kindness. One could say that there are those who don’t deserve such a precious commodity as kindness. I say they are the ones that need it the most. It’s not easy to be kind to some. Be the stronger one.
Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution. -Kahlil Gibran
To openly express empathy for someone else, especially a stranger is sometimes looked upon as weak or at least eccentric in our society. How off the mark is that? It requires strength to practice compassion. Being kind is not always so easy. It often requires putting aside our natural selfishness to put someone else first. It may involve some sort of sacrifice however small or large, and no one said it would be easy. We have all heard stories of great kindnesses done upon others. It makes my heart sing to hear of these good deeds but it is those simple kindnesses; the one’s we do everyday unto each other, the one’s that seldom get noticed. To me, they are the most important, the most crucial in adding some peace, love and understanding to this eclectic mix of lifeforms on this lovely planet of ours.

If we as a society can collectively decide to put a greater focus on kindness and it’s cultivation, our world would be a kinder place. Kindness is an asset to our civilization and it should be treated as a precious commodity.
Empathy and kindness should not only be encouraged in schools but taught. We are not born being kind. It isn’t until at least the age of two before we show our natural capacity for empathy and it isn’t until four or five before we exhibit a theory of mind, meaning that we are able to understand that other people may have feelings and beliefs that are different from our own.

We learn kindness from others; by how we are treated and our experiences. We are shaped by this. Those of us who have experienced kindness, gentleness and love in our lives, especially in our younger years are more apt and more able to express those very same emotions and sensitivities to others. It is our young people who will form the world of the future. It is these same people that are being exposed to constant messages of civil unrest, violence, bigotry and hatred. Our society tells us one thing and does another. The civilness of what we deem a civilization is eroding at the edges. I fear we are being desensitized to the suffering of others–there’s so much of it. The media puts this suffering on center stage dressed up as infotainment and presented to us through the safety of our screens. It’s easier to be indifferent, it’s easier not to care.
All the more reason to care…

I am compelled to make up for every little pain I have endured in my life, every unkindness done to me, through indifference or pure malice. I try not to take the acts and attitudes of others personally. I’ve found most of those who strike out in anger do so not out of hate for the victim but out of a hatred for themselves. Hurt travels. It is infectious; a vicious cycle of contagion. This is something I try not to succumb to.
It is kindness that I like to spread as my defiant act against a cold and heartless world. For every unkindness done to me, I try to do a kindness to make up for it. That warm glow is priceless my friends and it feel so good. Simply put: Doing good makes us feel good.
This is the stuff that can change the world. We can change the world! One smile at at a time, one act of kindness multiplied by seven billion..and then some and then some more..until those acts of kindness cover us all and heals the hurt that ails us.

Therefore, kindness is crucial to ensure the world retains its humanity. When we do a kind deed for someone, say some encouraging words or care for them, they feel good. Then when they see someone in trouble, they do the same for them. Thus, a chain of good deeds is formed. This brings a positive change to people and the world. So, kindness is important to make the world a better place for us and our coming generations.

Good Morning everyone, I warmly welcome the Principal, teachers, and my dear friends. I am ABC (mention your name) from grade (mention the class in which you are studying) here to speak on the topic of Kindness. Kindness is a quality one possesses and acts on it by exhibiting behaviors of friendliness, generosity, and being considered. It is a benevolent attitude that one possesses.
Kindness is actually inherent to human beings and we are inculcated with and reminded of it since our childhood. Kindness can be developed through empathy. Empathy is what one feels when they put themselves in others' shoes and kindness is how they express that by helping them and making their lives a little bit easier and better.
Every living being is deserving of kindness. One only needs to have good intentions to be kind, nothing else. When one has good intentions, they are attentive to others; they lend a helping hand, lend a good ear and listen to others' problems, and help someone in need. When you show respect to your elders, it is also an act of kindness.
One should always be kind even to strangers, help them cross the road, carry their bags, even if you disagree with their opinions, make your point with compassion, be considerate of others' problems because everyone is dealing with something or other and your act of kindness can actually help them feel better about themselves. Do not be judgemental about anyone and give people a chance.
You can also be kind to your friends and siblings by helping and supporting them in every way. Sharing is the best form of kindness, sharing things or feelings and problems. Listening to others, your parents, and teachers and understanding their perspectives is also a kind act.
A kind act is not just limited to human beings. One must display kindness to animals as well. My friends are the kindest people I know. Just last week, when we were boarding the bus after school to go home, my friend saw a wounded puppy and instead of ignoring it, he tended to his wounds and took him home. Now they have a new family member named Guppy. He found a new home because one act of kindness isn't that wonderful.
Kindness is not a cowardly act; it is for the brave and the bold. Standing up for the right and helping those in need shows our truth. Kindness truly is a selfless act when one helps others without expecting anything in return. When you are kind, you lead a peaceful, happy life and you sleep better at night.
A kind act is truly magical when you are kind to someone, they forget all about their problems and even a bad day becomes a good one. Kindness has the power to change the world. The world would be a more beautiful place if we were a little kinder to each other. Let's all be kind to one another. Every day, consciously do one act of kindness. Ask yourself, "Was I kind today?"

Good morning everyone, respect the Principal, teachers, and my dear friends. I Abc (mention your name) feel grateful for the opportunity to speak about kindness. Kindness is the supreme way to show someone you care about them or your respect and love for them. Kind people are considerate, generous, friendly, affectionate, and warm.

The prime example of kindness is Mother Teresa, who selflessly dedicated her entire life to serving sick children in a foreign country she had never been to and nothing about. She exuded kindness and that is strength in true terms.

We can show small acts of kindness every day that will have a large impact like listening to our parents, teachers, and elders, treating everyone with equality, taking the time to actually sit and listen to a friend's problems, and instead of judging by showing them the way to be. It is also important to know that every being is deserving of kindness and compassion, be it animals or humans.
It is in kindness and the doing of it that will change you in unpredictable ways; it will enrich your life more than the ones you show kindness to and have compassion for.
Let's change the world one kind of action at a time. People often say others remember you not through gifts or money but how you made them feel. And kindness can make everyone feel better, special, and important. Isn't that a great way to be remembered by making people feel good just by being kind?

It can be done by being polite to them, offering them emotional support, helping them financially, boosting their morale or by simply being supportive to them. Kind words and kind deeds done by us are not only a boon for the recipient but are also a blessing to us. Kindness has been described differently in different religious books and literature in the past. However, they all echo the same thought. All of them advocate that human beings must show kindness to other human beings as well as other creatures. We must be polite, friendly and helpful. While we should exhibit kindness we must not do it with the aim of getting anything in return. Kindness is a selfless act.
If God has been kind enough to give us the things we need we must be kind to others and render help in whatever way we can. As Lord Buddha said, “A generous heart, kind speech and a life of service and compassion are the things that renew humanity”.
Kindness Essay 2 (300 words)
Introduction
A person with a pleasant disposition and a concern for others is said to be kind. Such people are empathetic towards others. They help those around them whenever there is a need and never hesitate to go out of their way to bring a smile on other people’s face.
Small Acts of Kindness can Make Big Difference
Showing kindness towards others does not necessarily mean doing something big for them. It can be something as small as being polite and offering emotional support to someone. It can be something as tiny as passing a smile to the old lady who sits all alone in her balcony watching people go by or giving a small bite of your bread to the sparrow that tweets on your terrace every day. Such acts of kindness don’t take much but can make a big difference in the other person’s life.
You don’t have to be a millionaire to offer help and be nice to people around. You just need to have a good heart. Each one of us has something to give to the world. We just need to recognize what it is. Besides, we need to understand the need to be kind to people around us. We need to understand that the world would become a much better place if people are kind to each other.
By being kind to the other people we do not only help them and light a smile on their face but also feel good at a deeper level. It gives a sense of satisfaction.
We can rarely find kind people around. In fact, if we look at it, are we kind ourselves? We may feel the pain of people around us but how many times have we lend a helping hand towards them? If we expect others to be kind towards us, we must first inculcate this habit in ourselves.
Kindness Essay 3 (400 words)
It is rightly said, “You will never have a completely bad day if you show kindness at least once”. Being kind and compassionate towards others brings immense joy. The joy of giving is much greater than that of receiving. Kindness gets us closer to God and renders inner peace.
Acts of Kindness Never Go Unnoticed
While we must indulge in acts of kindness selflessly without expecting anything in return, however it is said that no act of kindness, even the smallest one, goes unnoticed. This is because God is watching us at all times. And he is known for being fair in his ways.
Being kind in general by being polite with others keeps us in a good mood as compared to the times when we get into arguments, or judge others or raise our voice. Similarly, offering even a small help to someone makes us feel good about ourselves. Helping others and being kind to them gives us an immediate sense of satisfaction. And whatever we give comes back to us in abundance. This is also known as the law of Karma.
However, if we show kindness to others hoping that we will get something in return then it is not considered an act of kindness. It is rather an act of selfishness.
Kindness towards Animals
Not just with human beings, we must also be kind towards animals. Many people throw stones at the street dogs and cows to scare them away. It is alright if done as an act of self dense however many people do it just for fun. We must rather be kind towards them. Treating the animals appropriately and feeding them are two of the ways to show kindness towards them. We waste a lot of food ever now. We throw our leftover food in the dustbin. Instead of throwing it away like that, we must take out some time to feed cats, dogs and cows roaming around near our house with it. We can also show kindness towards them by adopting them. Likewise, we can feed the birds by hanging bird feeders in our lawn or balcony. These small and random acts of kindness will not only do good to these birds and animals but will also make you feel better about yourself.
People who indulge in charity work and help other people with various big and small tasks are happier than those who only work for themselves.
Kindness Essay 4 (500 words)
In many cultures kindness is considered to be an essential virtue. It is said to be among the seven essential virtues that the moral intelligence consists of. The other virtues include conscience, respect, tolerance, self-control, fairness and empathy. Being kind means being polite and friendly and helping those around us.
Kindness is an Uncommon Trait
Though essential, kindness is not a trait that is found commonly in people these days. In today’s times people have become extremely self-absorbed. All they can think about is themselves. The growing competition at various stages in our life is one of the main reasons why people are turning out to be this way. Everyone around is busy making themselves better and showing the world as to how better their life is compared to that of others. They do not hesitate hurting those in their way to achieve what they want. While there is nothing wrong with improvising oneself but one must understand that there is much more to life and it is not always just about them. People have become ungrateful and do not understand that God has been kind enough to them and they must in turn be kind towards others.
Now, while most people do not possess the trait of kindness, it can be embedded in them with little effort. This can be done by teaching its importance from the very beginning. Importance of kindness must be taught in school. Workshops must be conducted and lectures must be given to tell children as to why being kind to people is necessary. This subject must form an essential part of the curriculum in schools. It is essential to emphasize its importance repeatedly from the very beginning for people to understand and inculcate it.
Kindness is Essential in Relationships
What is the most common trait that people look for in a relationship? It is nothing else but kindness. Nobody likes to befriend people who are rude, arrogant, selfish and haughty. Everyone likes those who are polite, soft-hearted, kind and generous. We must be kind to those around but as it is said charity begins at home so we must start with our near and dear ones.
Many people are kind and polite to their neighbours, friends and colleagues but are rude with their immediate family members such as their wife, parents, children and siblings. They scold them, do not pay much attention towards them and often indulge in arguments with them. Such people cannot be called kind no matter how nice they are with people outside or the amount of charity they do. If they are not kind at home, they are merely donning a facade to maintain a good image outside. In reality, they are frustrated inside and all their frustration comes out at home.
If a person is really kind at heart, he will be equally kind at home as well as outside. Being kind to people without expecting anything in return renders inner peace and happiness. It makes life sweeter.
Practicing kindness is not difficult. Showering kindness on those around us should be the ultimate goal of each one of us. Try it and see how it can be one of the most joyful experiences in life.
Kindness Essay 5 (600 words)
A person who is kind is said to bear a good moral character. He is loved and talked highly about by people around. However, this should not be the reason to indulge in acts of kindness. Kindness is something that must be done selflessly. If we expect people to appreciate us or return the favour then it is not kindness, it is selfishness. It clearly indicates that we are doing it with a selfish motif.
Different Definitions of Kindness
Different learned people and religious scriptures have defined kindness differently in the past. As per Chinese teacher and philosopher, Confucius, “Of neighbourhoods, kindness is the most beautiful. How can the man be considered wise who when he had the choice does not settle in kindness”. He urges to “recompense kindness with kindness.”
As per ancient Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle, kindness means “helpfulness towards someone in need, not in return for anything, nor for the advantage of the helper himself, but for that of the person helped”. As per American writer and humorist, Mark Twain, “Kindness is the language which the dumb can speak, the deaf can hear & the blind can see.” As per Talmud, the central text of Rabbinic Judaism, “deeds of kindness are equal in weight to all the commandments.”
“I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again”, said the American philosopher, William Penn.
The definitions of kindness may differ but the essence of all these is the same. Kindness is referred to as an essential virtue.
God Has Been Kind to You; You Must Be Kind to Others
If God has been kind enough to give you a good life, you must be kind enough to help those around you build a good life too. This is to say that if you earn well then give a small amount of your earnings in charity. If you are good in studies then do not hesitate to help your fellow students if they come to you for any kind of assistance. If God has made you physically-abled then help those who aren’t. For instance, you can help a blind person cross the road or carry the grocery bag home for the old lady who lives in your neighbourhood. If you have enough space in your balcony or garden then hang bird feeder and keep a bowl of water filled for the birds. Donate your old clothes and shoes to the poor and needy. There are so many poor kids who roam around without shoes and clothes. A number of NGOs request people to help them serve such people. Even a small contribution from your side can make a difference. Likewise, do not waste food. Give the leftover food to those who need it instead of showing it the dustbin.
If you can take out some time from your schedule then get involved in social service. You can begin by providing basic education to the poor little children around your house who cannot afford to study in the school.
These are small examples of how you can spread kindness. Imagine if each one of us inculcates this quality and is kind to everyone around, this world will become a much better place to live.
People must be kind to those around them and see how things change for good. Being kind to others, helping them and spreading smiles does not only do good to the recipients but also offers a deep sense of satisfaction to the one who indulges in the act.
