In recent years, there has been a growing trend that people tend to buy things on the Internet in online shopping . This present both pros and cos cons , however, in my opinion, its benefits are much more significant than the drawbacks.
The phrase “buy things on the Internet” is already used in the essay topic. Try to shorten it by using a suitable buzzword, such as “online shopping”
Words such as 'people' and 'ideas' have the potential to be vague. So, avoid saying “people tend to” if possible.
The second sentence in the introduction has too many commas. Break it into two simple sentences if necessary.
On the one hand, shopping online online shopping brings to the consumers some disadvatages. Initially, since people are unable to touch or to see the products they want to buy in reality, it is always hard for them to examine the quality of these products. As a result, they might purchase the items with poor quality. In addition to that, as the consumers do not feel happy with the items they had bought online, they tend to abandon these products or dont do not use them at all. This is definitely a watse waste of money. Moreover, buyings thing on the Internet often makes people confused since there are a great number of shops on the Internet. To be specific, the buyers might see the same products in several shops, but the prices for these items can be very different, ranging from reasonable to prohibitedly expensive price . Consequently, they will not know which products they should purchase.
The second sentence is too wordy, due to the fact that the words “ people ”, “ they ”, and “ them ” all have been used despite being unnecessary. Since the main focus here is the products, not the people using them, I suggest rewriting the whole sentence into passive voice .
Avoid using contraction (“ don’t ”) in an academic context.
The ideas and sentence structures being used here are kinda repetitive. Regarding of online shopping, there are many issues that are worth mentioning ( shipment delays, misleading online marketing, annoying advertises, etc)
On the other hand, I am of the opinion that shopping online online shopping brings people a number of benefits. First, shopping online online shopping allows the consumers to browse for products and checking comparing the prices between these online shops. In this way, people can make a better decision to buy what they like after taking prices, sizes and models of the products into consideration. To speak From my experience, I used to buy an elegant dress es at virtual shop s , which was cheaper compared to that of some shops near my houses. Second, buyings things on the Internet helps people save a great deal of time. That is to say, since people nowadays are often so caught up with work and study, shopping online online shopping is a wise choice which doesn’t does not require them to go the the stores. With a click of mouse With just a click , they can buy the things they need and the shippers will deliver their products to the customers as soon as possible. Third, since there is a high demand of buying things online, many people can realize their dream of starting up their own business and achieve success in the long rub run. This can be seen as a positive trend because it creates good job opportunities for the people and thereby help people to improve their income and well-being. This also contributes to boost ing the economy of a nation in general l .
While the second body paragraph is very long (216 words!), its quaility doesn’t appear much better than the first one. Try to write only 70 words, you will definitely see an improvement.
Many idioms are introduced in this paragraph: “a great deal of time”, “in the long run”, “to be caught up”, “to take in consideration”, “with just a click”. However, the attempt to use them isn’t really succesful, due to some spelling mistakes.
The vocabulary is kinda limitted here. However, there are a variety of connectives (“on the one hand”, , “first”, “in this way”, “thereby”, etc).
In conclusion, although buyings things on the Internet exerts some adverse aspects, the advantages can justify these.
Too short and unconvincing. Need to give more emphasis.

With the advent of technological advancement, 21st century has witnessed a boom in e-commerce. The number of online shopping websites is increasing exponentially. Shopping online has its upsides and downsides but the positives of this technological blessing far outweighs its negatives.
Firstly, online shopping saves one from travel and traffic problems. I live in the outskirts of Karachi and commuting to the city for buying stuff is not an easy task for me. Further, Karachi is an overly-populated city with the worst traffic situation, all this makes it more difficult to travel. This problem is hugely resolved by the e-buying facility. Everything is simply a click away, whether it is groceries, air tickets, clothes or books. Whatever I order is duly received at my doorstep, without my having to embark on long, hectic shopping-trips.
Secondly, buying things on the internet provides you with a wide range of options. Consider yourself in a gigantic super-mart having access to every type of item you can imagine! On the internet there is no physical space limitation, therefore the variety available for a single item is endless. Also, there are countless websites where you can compare product prices, specifications, extra features, deals and a lot more. One such website is Compare.Pk, where you can select an item and compare it with similar items of other brands for specifications and prices. All this not only provides convenience to customers but also exposes them to a very huge market for buying the most appropriate item.
In conclusion, it can be unambiguously agreed upon that the advancement in e-buying has resulted in convenience for buyers. One only has to select and order an item and it arrives at his doorstep. Also, the available options for a single commodity are endless, so that a person can compare and buy the best.

Corrected Essay:
With the advent of technological advancement, 21st century has witnessed a boom in e-commerce the number of online shopping websites is increasing exponentially. Shopping online has its upsides and downsides but the positives of this technological blessing far outweighs its negatives . The positive impacts on online shopping undermine its negative sides because the advanced technology can save our time and give more options for purchasing .
The opening paragraph does not contain a clear thesis statement. It is important to tell what you are going to talk about and where you are positioning on the views.
Phrases ‘ a boom in e commerce’ and ‘ is increasing exponentially’ have similar meaning. It is better to keep it in short, but clear sentence.
Firstly, online shopping saves one from travel and traffic problems. Online shopping does not require people to travel . I live in the outskirts of Karachi and commuting to the city for buying stuff is not an easy task for me. Further, Karachi is an overly-populated city with the worst traffic situation, all this makes it more difficult to travel. As living in Karachi, an over-populated city with its congestion problems, many citizens like me have to overcome difficult situation only for buying stuff in the city centre . This problem is hugely resolved by the e-buying facility. Everything is simply a click away, whether it is groceries, air tickets, clothes or books. Whatever I order is duly received at my doorstep, without my having to embark on long, hectic shopping-trips . This platform enables consumers to experience shopping activities in simple ways. Take the biggest e-commerce in the word, eBay which provides wide varieties of products, for example. As a student, I often ordered books, air tickets, and fashion items. Likewise, many housewives in my neighbourhood prefer to purchase groceries through this website. If eBay was never exist before, buyers like us might have to spend longer times taking long trips to get our shopping lists. This example tells about how an effective shopping is advantageous as a time saver.
Firstly is ommited as the topic sentence is not too clear enough to represent the main idea.
The use of ‘I’ in your example does not cover people’ problems in general, so I have changed ‘I’ into ‘ many citizen like me’
Everything is simply a click away needs to be elaborated . Please see the changes.
You only mention groceries, air tickets, clothes or books without giving explanation. If you want to score higher, it is your task to present your ideas in details. I have made some detailed explanations with this.
Secondly, Another benefit is that buying things items on the internet serves unlimited choices provides you with a wide range of options . Consider yourself in a gigantic super-mart having access to every type of item you can imagine! On the internet there is no physical space limitation, therefore the variety available for a single item is endless. Also, there are countless websites where you can compare product prices, specifications, extra features, and deals and a lot more . One such website is Compare.Pk, where you can select an item and compare it with similar items of other brands for specifications and prices. All this not only provides convenience to customers but also exposes them to a very huge market for buying the most appropriate item.
You need to link both main ideas in the first sentence using transitional phrase. But remember, reliance too much on this will score you lower. Use them when necessary .
The word ‘ things’ is a weak lexical resource. It is better to use some alternative vocabs like stuff, items, daily needs , etc.
A wide range of options have been mentioned in the intro, you need to paraphase it. Serves unlimited choices.
You do not need to use exclamation mark. Present your sentence in a smooth way.
Consider yourself in a gigantic super-mart having access to every type of item you can imagine!. This sentence also does not make a sense.
And a lot more is vague. You’d better omit this phrase.
In conclusion, it can be unambiguously agreed upon it is true that the advancement in e-buying has resulted in convenience for buyers. One only has to select and order an item and it arrives at his doorstep. Also, the available options for a single commodity are endless, so that a person can compare and buy the best.
You have to summarise your main points and reiterate your opinion. Some ideas presented are sidetrack.
Your opinion does not state your opinion clearly.
It can be unambiguously agreed upon is counted as 6 words. It is always good to be succinct and keep straight to the point.
Let me give you an example of this: In conclusion, the disadvantages of e-commerce trend are overshadowed by the benefits resulting from modern technology. I am convinced that online shopping is one of great innovations of people doing transaction as it reduces time and provides more options.

There are tons of online shopping sites where you can buy everything from plane tickets and flat-screen TVs to food, clothes, furniture, office supplies, movies, and lots more. While shopping online is convenient and fun, there are some disadvantages. Know the cons to realize the benefits of shopping at a traditional store.
The Pros of Shopping Online
There are, of course, distinct advantages of online shopping:
Time Convenience
In comparison to a brick-and-mortar store with fixed hours, online shopping venues are available any time, day or night. This is especially useful for parents with small children, anyone who works throughout the day, and during times of inclement weather.
Shopping Apps
Shopping from an app is a convenient luxury. Whether you're homebound or able to visit a store, shopping from your phone is a uniquely awesome experience.
Price Comparisons
When you visit a store, you most likely settle for whatever price the vendor has placed on a particular item. With online shopping, you can compare prices from hundreds of different vendors. Grocery store price comparison apps are a great option if you're not interested in doing this manually.
Discounts and Notifications
Online stores want to keep you as a customer, so they may offer deep discounts, rewards, and cash back if you sign up for their newsletters. This can keep you updated on all the best upcoming sales. Coupon codes—like the ones you can get from coupon code sites —are also extremely popular when shopping online.
Infinite Choice
Shelf space in a physical store is limited, which means the variety of goods is limited. This isn't true with online stores, where choices are abundant. If you don't see what you want at one store online, move on to the next one. As the consumer, you have the power to do that.
No Size Limitation
Another benefit is when the product you want to buy is too big to haul in your vehicle. Buying a boat from an auction site or ordering a tiny home online are just two examples of situations where your car just won't do the job.
Private Shopping
Ordering online is the preferred way to get something discreetly. Nobody has to see what you're filling your cart with, and some places even offer inconspicuous packaging so your delivery person is also none the wiser.
Zero Parking Struggles
Finding a parking spot can be a big reason you don't stop at a store. Especially around the holidays, there's a major benefit of no congestion when shopping online. When it's really busy, you might not even remember where you parked your car !
Home Delivery for the Disabled
Buying oversized items and not having to worry about parking are benefits everyone can take advantage of, but if you're physically disabled to the point that you can't drive or walk through a store, online shopping might be your only solution to ordering food, essential items, and other goods.
Easy Access to Consumer Reviews
It's easy to access consumer reviews for pretty much any product you can think of online, which makes for informed purchases. If you're not sure if you're up to buying something, conduct a little research by checking out customer reviews.
No Pressure Sales
If you don't want to experience awkward approaches by eager salespeople, you don't have to put up with that online. While you could consider pop-up ads a similar experience, they're a bit easier to suppress. Car auction websites are a great example of this.
Fewer Impulse Buys
This one depends on your shopping habits. If you find it easier to buy things you see in passing as you walk through a store's aisles, online shopping could save you money and even help you make healthier choices.
More Payment Methods
Another benefit of online shopping is that you can pay for things differently than you can at a physical store. Some retailers support PayPal, Bitcoin, or zero-interest payment plans, for example.
The Cons of Shopping Online
Here are a few disadvantages of internet shopping that might deter you from making your next purchase online:
No Inspection Ability
Things you order online could be larger or smaller than how they appear in the pictures, or the measurements listed for the product could have been written down incorrectly. And when you buy clothes online, you can't feel the material, see how it fits around your waist, or notice how it's made. Most online stores make it easy to return items for this reason.
Can't Always Talk to Someone Immediately
If you have a question about what you're about to order, or what you just ordered, you can't just walk up to an employee. You might instead have to wait a full day or longer to get your question answered. This situation is improving, however, as many sites have added an instant chat service or automated bot-answering screen to address concerns and answer questions on the spot.
Must Wait for Delivery
Need something no later than this afternoon? Not many online shopping sites have same-day delivery, and none of them offer the on-the-spot, take-home advantage that a physical store does. Some online shopping sites take weeks to deliver your order (though, they're in the minority).
Shipping Problems
You're more likely to have your package arrive broken, wet, melted, etc., or not arrive at all, when you're not the one who picked it up yourself. Even packages that do arrive could sit outside long enough for theft to occur.
Shipping Costs
Depending on what you buy, you could spend the same amount on just shipping costs, or sometimes even more. In-store shopping has no need to charge extra for shipping. Plus, depending on where you live, you might pay a bit more due to special taxes for online shopping.
Privacy and Security
Privacy and security are legitimate concerns for any online shopper. Your payment information could get stolen from the site, or someone who works there could copy your bank details and use them later on their own purchases. It's also hard to immediately recognize whether an online store is real or just there to scam you.
There are precautions you can take when shopping online to make the experience more secure. For example, pay attention to whether the site uses HTTPS , and protect your online accounts with secure, but different , passwords.
Legality Concerns
While this isn't a widespread problem, you could accidentally buy something that's illegal where you live. The product might very well be available from the website you're on, but it could also be illegal to order in your area. It's much easier for a website to offer these kinds of products than a store because websites can be created quickly and hosted all over the world with less oversight or concern for international shoppers.

Today, shopping online is becoming more popular in the modern world than ever. People use it to buy many things such as books, clothes, shoes, tickets and even groceries. I am of the opinion that this method of buying has both advantages and disadvantages, and it is hard to say whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
On the bright side, shopping from online portals is highly convenient. Many people these days have hectic schedules, and due to that, they get hardly any time to buy things in store. As a result, online shopping is a boon for them. It eliminates the need to visit the stores to place the order physically. One can get whatever one needs with just a few mouse clicks on the screen. It saves both time, effort and money. Also, most online stores offer huge discounts on their products most of the year. Consequently, customers don’t have to travel a long distance or wait in a long queue to pay their bills or buy products they want.
Talking about the drawbacks of virtual shopping, identity theft and digital scams are the most common. Careless use of credit or debit cards during the payment step or sharing sensitive personal information can often invite spammers and hackers to hamper their privacy. Finally, remote shopping doesn’t have the facility to physically inspect a product before buying it, which often leads to customer dissatisfaction. However, one can easily avoid these demerits by being cautious and trusting well-known brands and websites.
In conclusion, the overwhelming benefits that online shopping offer far outweigh a few demerits it has. Depending on what kind of products you buy, you can look for the most sensible way of buying them.
Meaning – a grocer’s shop or business. Example – My mother told me to buy some groceries on my way back from school.
Meaning – be heavier, greater, or more significant than. Example – The costs of these branded clothes outweigh their supposed value.

Sample essay written by Nguyen Yen
In recent years, there has been a growing trend that people tend to buy things on the Internet. This present both pros and cos, however, in my opinion, its benefits are much more significant than the drawbacks. On the one hand, shopping online brings consumers some disadvatages. Initially, since people are unable to touch or to see the products they want to buy in reality, it is always hard for them to examine the quality of these products. As a result, they might purchase the items with poor quality. In addition to that, as consumers do not feel happy with the items they had bought online, they tend to abandon these products or don’t use them at all. This is definitely a watse of money. Moreover, buyings thing on the Internet often makes people confused since there are a great number of shops on the Internet. To be specific, buyers might see the same products in several shops, but the prices for these items can be very different, ranging from reasonable to prohibitedly expensive price. Consequently, they will not know which products they should purchase. On the other hand, I am of opinion that shopping online brings people a number of benefits. First, shopping online allows consumers to browse for products and checking prices between these online shops . In this way, people can make a better decision to buy what they like after taking prices, sizes and models into consideration. From my experience, I used to buy an elegant dress at virtual shop, which was cheaper compared to some shops near my houses. Second, buyings things on the Internet helps people save a great deal of time. That is to say, since people nowadays are often so caught up with work and study, shopping online is a wise choice which doesn’t require them to go the the stores . With a click of mouse, they can buy the things they need and the shippers will deliver their products to customers as soon as possible. Third, since there is a high demand of buying things online, many people can realize their dream of starting up their own business and achieve success in the long rub This can be seen as a positive trend because it creates good job opportunities for people and thereby help people to improve their income and well-being. This also contributes to boosting the economy of a nation in generall. In conclusion, although buyings things on the Internet exerts some adverse aspects, the advantages can justify these. (Band 6.5) ———————————————————-
In recent years, there has been a growing trend that people tend to buy things on the Internet in online shopping. This present both pros and cos cons, however, in my opinion, its benefits are much more significant than the drawbacks.
- The phrase “buy things on the Internet” is already used in the essay topic. Try to shorten it by using a suitable buzzword, such as “online shopping”
- Words such as ‘people’ and ‘ideas’ have the potential to be vague. So, avoid saying “people tend to” if possible.
- The second sentence in the introduction has too many commas.
- The second sentence is too wordy, due to the fact that the words “people”, “they”, and “them” all have been used despite being unnecessary. Since the main focus here is the products, not the people using them, I suggest rewriting the whole sentence into passive voice.
- Avoid using contraction (“don’t”) in an academic context.
- The ideas and sentence structures being used here are kinda repetitive. Regarding of online shopping, there are many issues that are worth mentioning (shipment delays, misleading online marketing, annoying advertises, etc)
To speak From my experience, I used to buy an elegant dresses at virtual shops, which was cheaper compared to that of some shops near my houses. Second, buyings things on the Internet helps people save a great deal of time. That is to say, since people nowadays are often so caught up with work and study, shopping online online shopping is a wise choice which doesn’t does not require them to go the the stores. With a click of mouse With just a click, they can buy the things they need and the shippers will deliver their products to the customers as soon as possible.
- While the second body paragraph is very long (216 words!), its quaility doesn’t appear much better than the first one. Try to write only 70 words, you will definitely see an improvement.
- Many idioms are introduced in this paragraph: “a great deal of time”, “in the long run”, “to be caught up”, “to take in consideration”, “with just a click”. However, the attempt to use them isn’t really succesful, due to some spelling mistakes.
- The vocabulary is kinda limitted here. However, there are a variety of connectives (“on the one hand”, , “first”, “in this way”, “thereby”, etc).
In conclusion, although buyings things on the Internet exerts some adverse aspects, the advantages can justify these.
- Too short and unconvincing. Need to give more emphasis.

- Task Response: 7
✓ addresses all parts of the task (the essay has answer the required question, and write more than 250 words) ✓ presents a clear position throughout the response ✓ presents, extends and supports main ideas, but there may be a tendency to overgeneralise and/or supporting ideas may lack focus

- The opening paragraph does not contain a clear thesis statement. It is important to tell what you are going to talk about and where you are positioning on the views.
- Phrases ‘a boom in e commerce’ and ‘is increasing exponentially’ have similar meaning.
- Firstly is ommited as the topic sentence is not too clear enough to represent the main idea.
- The use of ‘I’ in your example does not cover people’ problems in general, so I have changed ‘I’ into ‘ many citizen like me’
- Everything is simply a click away needs to be elaborated. Please see the changes.
- You only mention groceries, air tickets, clothes or books without giving explanation.
- You need to link both main ideas in the first sentence using transitional phrase. But remember, reliance too much on this will score you lower. Use them when necessary.
- The word ‘ things’ is a weak lexical resource. It is better to use some alternative vocabs like stuff, items, daily needs, etc.
- A wide range of options have been mentioned in the intro, you need to paraphase it. Serves unlimited choices.
- You do not need to use exclamation mark. Present your sentence in a smooth way.
- Consider yourself in a gigantic super-mart having access to every type of item you can imagine!.This sentence also does not make a sense.
- And a lot more is vague.
- You have to summarise your main points and reiterate your opinion. Some ideas presented are sidetrack.
- Your opinion does not state your opinion clearly.
- It can be unambiguously agreed upon is counted as 6 words. It is always good to be succinct and keep straight to the point.
- Let me give you an example of this: In conclusion, the disadvantages of e-commerce trend are overshadowed by the benefits resulting from modern technology. I am convinced that online shopping is one of great innovations of people doing transaction as it reduces time and provides more options.
Overall: 7.0

by Manjusha Nambiar · Published December 2, 2014 · Updated April 25, 2023
Nowadays online shopping becomes more popular than in-store shopping. Is it a positive or a negative development? Give your reasons and examples.
Now that we can buy just about anything with a few mouse clicks from the comfort of our home, very few people actually feel the need to venture into brick and mortar stores. There is no denying the fact that online shopping has become more popular than in-store shopping. This trend has both positive and negative aspects.
The huge popularity of online shopping can be attributed to the fact that it makes shopping easier. It saves both time and money. Buyers no longer have to drive all the way to shops to buy things. Also, online stores tend to offer attractive prices probably because they have lower overhead costs. This allows them to sell items for deeply discounted prices. This can lead to major cost benefits for shoppers. In addition, online shopping makes it easy to buy things from any part of the world. Even if an item is not available in your country, you can buy it from online stores. Online shopping also allows you to compare prices before hitting the purchase button.
On the flip side, the ease of online shopping has made many people compulsive shoppers. Most of us spend lots of time on the internet every day. And while we are on the internet, we get bombarded with numerous advertisements. For a compulsive shopper, this is a good reason to splurge. The fact that online shopping encourages us to buy things that we do not need or use cannot be denied. This can lead to debts. Also, there are security concerns. When you buy things online, you run a small risk of getting your financial information exploited by hackers. Of course, good anti-virus and anti-malware programs can offer a great deal of protection. But almost every week, we hear about data breaches at major online retailers.
To conclude, online shopping has several advantages and disadvantages. However, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Of course, the shopper has to exercise some common sense and keep their device free of malware if they want to enjoy the benefits of online shopping.

Use this online shopping vs in store shopping essay as an example for your ouwn academic paper.
Shopping is part of our life and just like we need to breath to stay alive we also need to shop as well. It doesn’t really matter the amount or the quantity of products you are buying but it’s all about the time you spend to do it. Over the years people have been shopping at their neighborhood mall for most of the household stuff including food. This also include doing some little window shopping. With the coming of the internet and online shopping, shopping has been revolutionized. Many people are going for online shopping as compared to going to the local mall. It is a fact that some people still prefer doing shopping at the mall with various personal issues and preferences. Some argue that they get to enjoy a day off by shopping at the mall. To some the mall is their number one place to buy merchandise. To others the mall is the place where they can go and get their appetite satisfied or unwind through various entertainment activities. All this is true about shopping at the mall it is even fun to most people but the fact is that the hassle of looking to what you want is undeniably tiring. In other words as the internet constantly gains popularity majority of people are going for shopping online. Shopping online has takes preference over the conventional shopping at the local mall since it has been made for the benefit of consumers offering many advantages. The first advantage of shopping online is that it is convenient. You don’t need to spend any of you hard earned money in buying fuel to go to the mall. All you need is just a few clicks of your mouse and you get what you want. The stress of waiting in jam for many hours is eliminated by online shopping. In addition you won’t hassle for parking space or where to leave your kids when shopping online (Bigne and Enrique 123). Online stores are always open 24 hours a day through the year so you have all the time you need to do your shopping without bothering anyone or rushing to beat the store’s closing time. In addition while shopping online you can browse through the different products you want or if you are not decided you can compare the products offered in different online stores and buy the one that satisfies you. You can be able to track your purchases easily online using the carts services provided by online stores .This isn’t possible with shopping at a local mall. Lastly for people who feel shy buying certain products like hair growth lotion , they can make their purchase online anonymously with no ever knowing anything. Online shopping offers the ultimate convenience to shoppers. Secondly shopping online allows saving. Online stores offer products and services at affordable prices as compared to the local mall. This is due to the fact that online stores don’t have overhead costs associated with local mall like rent, display, utilities and many more. Most of the time it is such cost that end up being transferred to the consumers at local malls making prices of commodities a bit higher. You buy cheaper and therefore save money. Also when shopping online as a consumer you are able to get products at lower prices. This is especially so if the product in question is being manufactured in that country. The idea here is that products from a country are sold at a lower price in that country than in foreign market. Therefore the possibility of buying from an online store owned by a manufacturer allows buying at a cheaper price. Another advantage is that online shopping offers variety and simple international purchases. In online shopping there is no geographical boundary. This means that consumers can buy products from all over the world. This is particularly if what you want is not easily available at your area. This allows buyers and sellers from across the globe to come together and interact. Through such interactions consumers air out their grievances and suggestions of improving products and sellers also market more of their products (Montaldo 34). In addition you have limitless options on products available in online shopping since online shopping offers a variety of products to choose from. Products that are difficult to find in local malls such as niche health products like all natural health supplements can be found with ease in online stores. This also includes products that are not available at your local mall. Last but not least buying online allows making of informed decisions before buying. This is because as a consumer looking for a certain product online you can access that products review before making up your mind. Product reviews are usually done by experienced users of that product or it can be done by the manufacturer of the product. Through such reviews you are able to comprehend the pros and cons o the product which will help you gauge how useful it will be to you (Montaldo 78). You are also informed on how to use a product in case you haven’t used it before. In addition there is a provision for consumers to leave there comments and views about a product and also ask questions regarding it. This prevents being misguided by the local malls assistants who most of the times know very little about the products they sell. You will not end up buying something that you regret about it later if you are keen in reading and understanding product reviews. It goes without saying that the internet in addition to being a source of information has transformed shopping for the better. It is crystal clear and evident from above that shopping online has accrued a lot of advantages to the consumers. Through online shopping you can purchase your needed products conveniently from the comfort of your home. Online shopping offers products at competitive prices enabling you to save. In addition since online shops don’t incur overhead costs you are able to buy at cheaper prices as compared to a local mall. Additionally, you are able to select from a variety of products online when shopping and in addition you can purchase products from anywhere in the world. You also get the chance to interact with sellers and manufacturers of products directly when shopping online. Lastly online shopping provides for making an informed decision before purchasing products through product reviews. This prevents mistakenly buying goods you have no proper knowledge on. All this explain why more and more people prefer to do their shopping online as compare to doing it at their local malls. According to Montaldo (52) it is true that online shopping surpasses shopping at the mall for it not only saves money but also keeps in check ones comfort and privacy.

Online markets are blessings for working people who follow busy schedules. People who do not want to waste time by going to the markets; they can easily buy products online. You can sit on the sofa while making any purchase. However, online shopping does not restrict you with their timings. They are open all the time on all the days of the week. Long Essay on Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Shopping (500 - 600 Words)
Introduction
Earlier people used to go to distant markets to buy necessary things. There was no other available option for shopping. But now with the changing time, we have changed our method of buying things. Nowadays, people have the option to choose whether they want to go to the market or the product will get delivered to their doorstep. Yes, this can be possible when you shop online.
Making use of the internet to buy products is called online shopping. In online shopping, we can shop anything by picking them from the virtual online stores and ordering them at our address. It is a simple and convenient mode of shopping.
Online Shopping: Brief History
After the emergence of smartphones and internet technology, online shopping came into existence. Initially, it was designed to promote and advertise the products of the companies. Later, it was made possible to exchange goods using the internet. In 1994, the first secure shopping channel was established. Flowers, wines, and chocolates were the initial products that were sold online. Later the online market flourished and wide varieties of products were made available.
In 1995, Amazon and eBay established its site for online shopping followed by Alibaba in 2003. Soon after, many other online shopping sites have made their place in the market.
Advantages/ Benefits of Online Shopping
Online shopping offers huge advantages to their customers. The dependency of people on online shopping is increasing day by day. During the days of the pandemic, online shopping was the savior of the time. Some of the major advantages of online shopping are as follows:
- Flexibility: Online shopping is a flexible way of purchasing products. There is no time bound in an online market. Whenever you are free, you can scroll down for your favorite items and order them.
- Big savings: You can save your fuel, energy, as well as the time when opting to online shopping. No need to move anywhere, just move your fingers.
- Comparison: During online shopping, you can easily compare the prices of different products from different sites. While offline shopping, going to various shops to compare prices will be a hectic job.
- Huge options: Unlike limited items in the physical shops, online stores are flooded with a wide variety of items. They offer a huge option to choose from.
- Good deals: Online shopping sites throw various good deals to their customers. During any occasion or festive season, they offer discounts and low prices.
Disadvantages/ Cons of Online Shopping
No method can fully satisfy customers, and so the online method of shopping. For some people, it is a boon while some still fear shopping online. Some of the disadvantages of online shopping are listed below:
- Security: The main fear people experience while shopping online is security. If not taken proper precautions, you can easily be the victim of online fraud. Payment and privacy are other concerns associated with the online market.
- Satisfaction: Online shopping does not provide full customer satisfaction as you are not allowed to check the product physically. There are many chances of wrong product delivery.
- Difficult to return: If you are not satisfied with the product, you can return them but the process is not that simple. Some sites do not even offer an exchange or return policy.
- Delivery: While ordering anything online, it takes time to reach your destination. Therefore, you need to wait for some days to receive the product.
- Bargaining: Offline markets are a good place for people who are experts in bargaining. In online stores, prices are fixed and you cannot deny them.
Today the number of people who shop online is comparatively high. The growing trend of online shopping has turned many people towards purchasing things online. However, many still prefer to go to physical shops to buy things. Among online shopping and offline shopping, people can choose the way that suits them better.
I hope the above given essay on online shopping will be useful for you in knowing the advantages and disadvantages of this modern mode of shopping.

Shopping has always been a fun activity from the early days. Be it shopping for the family, shopping for oneself it gives pleasure to both the parties i.e. one who is buying as well as the seller. Shopping is the time where one enjoys the time with family, friends or just oneself.
Shopping allows us a time to choose, to think to select and rethink over our decisions whether to buy an item or not. Another tern that is connected with shopping is ‘bargaining’. ‘Bargaining’ is the common settlement on the price of an item brought about by a discussion between the customer and the seller.
Sometimes these discussions don’t remain only discussions they reach the level of arguments! Malls, shops, departmental stores were the common places where people went for shopping.
Shopping has various categories
- Food shopping
- Furniture shopping
- Cloth shopping
- Gadget shopping
- Jwellery shopping
- Items of daily use
But with the advent of latest technology shopping has shifted from malls and mega marts to the 5 inch or 7 inch screens of our smart phones, tablets or computers… just a scroll through the websites and whatever you want is presented right in front of you!
Weird as it may seem online shopping is raging nowadays, with new websites opening every day. Different websites selling specific items. Whether its pepperfry selling customized furniture, jabong, myntra selling clothes or Amazon selling items of daily use, you have it all!
“Whoever said money can’t buy happiness, didn’t know where to shop” .
Like everything has its pros and cons. Even online shopping has both its advantages and disadvantages.
Speaking of advantages online shopping comes with innumerable benefits that are hard to list. What are they?
- E-commerce websites presents to us thousands of products within a flash of a second
- Buying is faster and easier.
- Interactive in nature. We can know about its size, color ,texture by reading its specifications
- Payments are smooth as butter. You can pay through online transactions or just do a cash on delivery to be sure.
- There are so many choosing options. You can see the prices offered by different sellers.
- Packages reach at your doorsteps. No need to toil hard to go to any store.
- Didn’t like the item? Size or fit issue? You can easy return them and get a refund or an exchange.
- Go shopping whenever you like!. Be it a boring lecture or a lonely bus stand, you can always scroll through the shops anytime. Always open 24×7
- You can fill in specifications as to the product type, fittings, price range, color and much more, and the most relevant product will be selected from the store and displayed in front of your eyes.
- This also gave an opportunity to small sellers who cannot open an entire shop. They get a platform to showcase their products and get customers…almost free
- There are some websites even that allows the customers to directly talk to the seller and bargain about the price or customize the item according to his/her liking.
- Cash problem? Nowadays certain e-commerce websites have started a feature where even COD orders can be paid off by cash or card.

Some e commerce websites also present sales and discounts. Those are quiet economical. Items are available at a much lower rate, sometimes even cheaper than the retail shops
Talking about advantages we came across so many of them. But just like anything else online shopping also has its evil faces. Yes! It also has its bad effects, to name a few are:-
- Many sellers who have come to turned out to be frauds. They don’t sell original or genuine items rather they sell duplicate items which stops working within a few months after purchase.
- Some items after delivery doesn’t match the picture of the one shown on the website
- Faulty items when returned back, the customers don’t get refund; money is forfeited, and even if it is refunded its takes a long time to get processed.
- Delayed deliveries have always been a hassle.
- Sometimes during online money transactions the amount gets debited but the order is not placed. Hence disappointment to its utmost extent!
- Delivery charges include hidden charges. Too high a delivery charge is often disheartening.
- Faulty products get delivered.
- Products sometimes have hidden conditions about its exchange, warranty and refundability. Customers face trouble returning it once it is bought.
- Hackers are omnipresent! People have to be very careful very sharing bank information. There have been cases where the bank information have been leaked and money has been drawn out from the bank. Zero balance is the ultimate result!
- Many websites claim to sell 100% original products but when the products reaches the customers it turns out to second hand or in used condition.
Every item been it big or small has its effects and defects. It is we who have to be careful. Such bad situations can be avoided very easily through some carefulness and logical decision making.
Here are a few tips as to how to avoid online frauds
- Buy the assured products as much as possible. You will see tags as ‘Flipkart assured’ etc. it means that the products have been checked and verified by the e-commerce websites. Those products are safer to buy as they don’t create much hassle during returns.
- Keep bank information as much secret as possible. Buy only from famous e-commerce sites. Those which have a good customer reviews.
- Read the item description and its specification properly before buying. It will save you from buying fake products.
- Search for hidden terms and conditions, hidden costs before buying.
- Lodge a complaint immediately in the customer support portal of the e commerce website regarding any problem. It gets solved within 24-48 hours.
- COD orders are the safest of all.

Buying College Essays Is Now Easier Than Ever. But Buyer Beware

Concern is growing about a burgeoning online market for essays that students can buy and turn in as their own work. And schools are trying new tools to catch it.
As the recent college admissions scandal is shedding light on how parents are cheating and bribing their children's way into college, schools are also focusing on how some students may be cheating their way through college. Concern is growing about a burgeoning online market that makes it easier than ever for students to buy essays written by others to turn in as their own work. And schools are trying new tools to catch it.
It's not hard to understand the temptation for students. The pressure is enormous, the stakes are high and, for some, writing at a college level is a huge leap.
"We didn't really have a format to follow, so I was kind of lost on what to do," says one college freshman, who struggled recently with an English assignment. One night, when she was feeling particularly overwhelmed, she tweeted her frustration.
"It was like, 'Someone, please help me write my essay!' " she recalls. She ended her tweet with a crying emoji. Within a few minutes, she had a half-dozen offers of help.
"I can write it for you," they tweeted back. "Send us the prompt!"
The student, who asked that her name not be used for fear of repercussions at school, chose one that asked for $10 per page, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
"For me, it was just that the work was piling up," she explains. "As soon as I finish some big assignment, I get assigned more things, more homework for math, more homework for English. Some papers have to be six or 10 pages long. ... And even though I do my best to manage, the deadlines come closer and closer, and it's just ... the pressure."
In the cat-and-mouse game of academic cheating, students these days know that if they plagiarize, they're likely to get caught by computer programs that automatically compare essays against a massive database of other writings. So now, buying an original essay can seem like a good workaround.
"Technically, I don't think it's cheating," the student says. "Because you're paying someone to write an essay, which they don't plagiarize, and they write everything on their own."
Her logic, of course, ignores the question of whether she's plagiarizing. When pressed, she begins to stammer.
"That's just a difficult question to answer," she says. "I don't know how to feel about that. It's kind of like a gray area. It's maybe on the edge, kind of?"
Besides she adds, she probably won't use all of it.
Other students justify essay buying as the only way to keep up. They figure that everyone is doing it one way or another — whether they're purchasing help online or getting it from family or friends.
"Oh yeah, collaboration at its finest," cracks Boston University freshman Grace Saathoff. While she says she would never do it herself, she's not really fazed by others doing it. She agrees with her friends that it has pretty much become socially acceptable.
"I have a friend who writes essays and sells them," says Danielle Delafuente, another Boston University freshman. "And my other friend buys them. He's just like, 'I can't handle it. I have five papers at once. I need her to do two of them, and I'll do the other three.' It's a time management thing."
The war on contract cheating
"It breaks my heart that this is where we're at," sighs Ashley Finley, senior adviser to the president for the Association of American Colleges and Universities. She says campuses are abuzz about how to curb the rise in what they call contract cheating. Obviously, students buying essays is not new, but Finley says that what used to be mostly limited to small-scale side hustles has mushroomed on the internet to become a global industry of so-called essay mills. Hard numbers are difficult to come by, but research suggests that up to 16 percent of students have paid someone to do their work and that the number is rising.
"Definitely, this is really getting more and more serious," Finley says. "It's part of the brave new world for sure."
The essay mills market aggressively online, with slickly produced videos inviting students to "Get instant help with your assignment" and imploring them: "Don't lag behind," "Join the majority" and "Don't worry, be happy."
"They're very crafty," says Tricia Bertram Gallant, director of the Academic Integrity Office at the University of California in San Diego and a board member of the International Center for Academic Integrity.
The companies are equally brazen offline — leafleting on campuses, posting flyers in toilet stalls and flying banners over Florida beaches during spring break. Companies have also been known to bait students with emails that look like they're from official college help centers. And they pay social media influencers to sing the praises of their services, and they post testimonials from people they say are happy customers.
"I hired a service to write my paper and I got a 90 on it!" gloats one. "Save your time, and have extra time to party!" advises another.
"It's very much a seduction," says Bertram Gallant. "So you can maybe see why students could get drawn into the contract cheating world."
YouTube has been cracking down on essay mills; it says it has pulled thousands of videos that violate its policies against promoting dishonest behavior.
But new videos constantly pop up, and their hard sell flies in the face of their small-print warnings that their essays should be used only as a guide, not a final product.
Several essay mills declined or didn't respond to requests to be interviewed by NPR. But one answered questions by email and offered up one of its writers to explain her role in the company, called EduBirdie.
"Yes, just like the little birdie that's there to help you in your education," explains April Short, a former grade school teacher from Australia who's now based in Philadelphia. She has been writing for a year and a half for the company, which bills itself as a "professional essay writing service for students who can't even."
Some students just want some "foundational research" to get started or a little "polish" to finish up, Short says. But the idea that many others may be taking a paper written completely by her and turning it in as their own doesn't keep her up at night.
"These kids are so time poor," she says, and they're "missing out on opportunities of travel and internships because they're studying and writing papers." Relieving students of some of that burden, she figures, allows them to become more "well-rounded."
"I don't necessarily think that being able to create an essay is going to be a defining factor in a very long career, so it's not something that bothers me," says Short. Indeed, she thinks students who hire writers are demonstrating resourcefulness and creativity. "I actually applaud students that look for options to get the job done and get it done well," she says.
"This just shows you the extent of our ability to rationalize all kinds of bad things we do," sighs Dan Ariely, professor of psychology and behavioral economics at Duke University. The rise in contract cheating is especially worrisome, he says, because when it comes to dishonest behavior, more begets more. As he puts it, it's not just about "a few bad apples."

Felicity Huffman And 12 Other Parents To Plead Guilty In College Cheating Scandal
"Instead, what we have is a lot ... of blemished apples, and we take our cues for our behavior from the social world around us," he says. "We know officially what is right and what's wrong. But really what's driving our behavior is what we see others around us doing" or, Ariely adds, what we perceive them to be doing. So even the proliferation of advertising for essays mills can have a pernicious effect, he says, by fueling the perception that "everyone's doing it."
A few nations have recently proposed or passed laws outlawing essay mills, and more than a dozen U.S. states have laws on the books against them. But prosecuting essay mills, which are often based overseas in Pakistan, Kenya and Ukraine, for example, is complicated. And most educators are loath to criminalize students' behavior.
"Yes, they're serious mistakes. They're egregious mistakes," says Cath Ellis, an associate dean and integrity officer at the University of New South Wales, where students were among the hundreds alleged to have bought essays in a massive scandal in Australia in 2014.
"But we're educational institutions," she adds. "We've got to give students the opportunity to learn from these mistakes. That's our responsibility. And that's better in our hands than in the hands of the police and the courts."
Staying one step ahead
In the war on contract cheating, some schools see new technology as their best weapon and their best shot to stay one step ahead of unscrupulous students. The company that makes the Turnitin plagiarism detection software has just upped its game with a new program called Authorship Investigate.
The software first inspects a document's metadata, like when it was created, by whom it was created and how many times it was reopened and re-edited. Turnitin's vice president for product management, Bill Loller, says sometimes it's as simple as looking at the document's name. Essay mills typically name their documents something like "Order Number 123," and students have been known to actually submit it that way. "You would be amazed at how frequently that happens," says Loller.
Using cutting-edge linguistic forensics, the software also evaluates the level of writing and its style.
"Think of it as a writing fingerprint," Loller says. The software looks at hundreds of telltale characteristics of an essay, like whether the author double spaces after a period or writes with Oxford commas or semicolons. It all gets instantly compared against a student's other work, and, Loller says, suspicions can be confirmed — or alleviated — in minutes.
"At the end of the day, you get to a really good determination on whether the student wrote what they submitted or not," he says, "and you get it really quickly."
Coventry University in the U.K. has been testing out a beta version of the software, and Irene Glendinning, the school's academic manager for student experience, agrees that the software has the potential to give schools a leg up on cheating students. After the software is officially adopted, "we'll see a spike in the number of cases we find, and we'll have a very hard few years," she says. "But then the message will get through to students that we've got the tools now to find these things out." Then, Glendinning hopes, students might consider contract cheating to be as risky as plagiarizing.
In the meantime, schools are trying to spread the word that buying essays is risky in other ways as well.
Professor Ariely says that when he posed as a student and ordered papers from several companies, much of it was "gibberish" and about a third of it was actually plagiarized.
Even worse, when he complained to the company and demanded his money back, they resorted to blackmail. Still believing him to be a student, the company threatened to tell his school he was cheating. Others say companies have also attempted to shake down students for more money, threatening to rat them out if they didn't pay up.
The lesson, Ariely says, is "buyer beware."
But ultimately, experts say, many desperate students may not be deterred by the risks — whether from shady businesses or from new technology.
Bertram Gallant, of UC San Diego, says the right way to dissuade students from buying essays is to remind them why it's wrong.
"If we engage in a technological arms race with the students, we won't win," she says. "What are we going to do when Google glasses start to look like regular glasses and a student wears them into an exam? Are we going to tell them they can't wear their glasses because we're afraid they might be sending the exam out to someone else who is sending them back the answers?"
The solution, Bertram Gallant says, has to be about "creating a culture where integrity and ethics matter" and where education is valued more than grades. Only then will students believe that cheating on essays is only cheating themselves.

Americans are shopping less. But the US economic engine is still humming

Editor’s Note: A version of this story appeared in CNN Business’ Nightcap newsletter. To get it in your inbox, sign up for free, here.
To hear executives at some of America’s biggest retailers tell it, consumers are strained for cash and buying less stuff, in a troubling sign of a slowing economy.
That’s only half true. The consumer appetite that kept the US economy afloat through the worst of the pandemic and beyond remains hearty — it’s just craving something new.
This earnings season, retail bosses have offered all kinds of reasons for their dwindling profits. Macy’s said credit card delinquencies, a proxy for consumer health, are on the rise. Dick’s Sporting Goods said shoplifting is dinging its margins, despite little evidence of rising rates of theft. Foot Locker’s stock is down 30%. Nike (NKE) ’s stock has fallen 10 straight days, its longest-ever losing streak. Target, Home Depot and Lowe’s all saw sales slump.
Is this it? The moment the mighty US economy finally hits the skids?
Probably not.
While it’s true that people are spending less on stuff and have long blown through their Covid-era stimulus savings, it is not true that they’ve stopped spending.

Instead of shelling out on yet another pair of running shoes or a new laptop or dishwasher — how many of those does one household need anyway? — Americans are opting instead to buy tickets for Taylor Swift or Beyoncé or “Barbie.” They’re buying airfare, reserving hotels and hailing Ubers to concerts, weddings, spas, beach vacations — activities that have been curtailed, to varying degrees, by Covid over the past three years.
That’s important, because Americans’ spending on goods and services accounts for two-thirds of US gross domestic product.

We won’t have a read on third-quarter economic growth until late October, but already, forecasts for GDP “are running wild on the upside,” writes Chris Rupkey, chief economist at FwdBonds. “It is looking like a blowout quarter for economic growth.”
The unofficial GDPNow forecast from the Atlanta Federal Reserve expects economic growth in the third quarter to rise 5.8% on an annualized basis — double the rate of GDP growth from the same period last year.
“Consumers are just fatigued, not strapped,” Bloomberg columnist Leticia Miranda wrote this week. “Retailers just need to find a way to shake them out of their boredom.”
Consumers obviously haven’t stopped buying stuff, either — spending on goods remains “very elevated” relative to pre-Covid trends, according to Deutsche Bank. Even malls are making a comeback.
But shoppers are being more judicious about how they spend as inflation continues to bite. That’s been great news for Walmart, Amazon and TJ Maxx, which offer more discounted items and saw revenue surge in the second quarter.
“Overall, the consumer appears to be becoming noticeably more cautious and is spending most of their discretionary cash on travel and entertainment rather than merchandise,” said Louis Navellier, a market commentator and founder of investment firm Navellier.
Red flags for a different economy
When retailers like Dick’s and Macy’s issue dire warnings about the state of the American consumer, they’re not necessarily wrong — but they’re viewing the ostensible red flags through a pre-pandemic lens.
Historically, sluggish retail sales, credit card delinquency and even shoplifting have been signs of a dark cloud on the horizon. But those events also typically came with other warning signs, like rising unemployment, stagnant or falling wages and a pullback on all kinds of spending, including on services.
That’s not the situation in 2023. Wages are rising. Inflation is cooling. Unemployment has been hovering around its lowest level in a half-century, despite aggressive interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve designed to cool consumer demand.
The question of credit card debt is another area where the nuance matters. The delinquent debt that Macy’s warned of this week looks especially elevated in part because it was practically nonexistent over the past two years. And as a share of total credit card debt, it is relatively low.
But Americans’ credit card debt is unquestionably rising. In the second quarter, credit card balances shot up by $45 billion, or nearly 4.6%, to surpass $1 trillion for the first time ever.
Obviously, carrying a hefty balance on your credit card can be bad, especially after the Fed raised interest rates 11 times in the span of 18 months. But in the aggregate, rising credit card debt reflects some level of consumer optimism about the ability to pay off summer beach vacations and Taylor Swift swag in due time.
The economy isn’t without headwinds. The rise in credit card and auto loan debt has been accompanied by a drawdown in savings. More Americans are tapping their 401(k) accounts because of financial distress, according to Bank of America data released this month. And come October, millions of Americans will be back on the hook to pay their student loan balances after a three-year reprieve.
What’s different now, said Brett Ryan, senior US economist for Deutsche Bank, is that the momentum going into those headwinds “looks a little better.”
“And that leaves the conclusion that maybe the economy is able to weather these upcoming headwinds.”

Trump mug shot released after booking in Fulton County Jail

For the fourth time this year, Donald Trump turned himself in to authorities after being indicted on criminal charges — but it was the first time the former president was required to pose for a mug shot.
Fulton County authorities publicly released Trump’s booking photo Thursday night after Trump voluntarily surrendered at an Atlanta jail Thursday on charges he broke state laws with his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.
Wearing a navy suit and red tie, Trump displayed a scowl in the widely shared photo.
Trump Georgia indictment live updates

Trump had arrived at the Fulton County Jail around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, hours before the Friday deadline to voluntarily surrender that had been set by Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis (D). Since early Thursday morning, a few dozen Trump supporters had been milling about outside the jail, waving pro-Trump flags and signs, just outside an entrance where officers had placed several metal barricades.
Security was tight: Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat had announced this week there would be a “hard lockdown” around the jail during Trump’s surrender, and the airspace above the jail was closed for more than two hours Thursday while the former president was being booked.
While he was inside the jail, away from cameras, Trump went through the same process as any other person would when surrendering: being fingerprinted and having his mug shot taken. Afterward, his booking photo was publicly released, just as any mug shots for criminal defendants in the state would be, when requested.
The prospect of a former president’s booking photo leading newscasts was unprecedented. After each of Trump’s three previous indictments, authorities had not taken or released a mug shot, in part to avoid a spectacle and also because they acknowledged that there was little need for formal photo identification of the former president.
Tracking the Trump investigations and where they stand
After a New York grand jury indicted Trump in April , in a case stemming from alleged hush money payments to former adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, Trump’s campaign began selling T-shirts with a fake mug shot for $47, emblazoned with the words “NOT GUILTY.” The pretend mug shot showed Trump’s height on the lineup as 6-foot-5, two inches taller than Trump is in real life.
Even before Trump was arraigned, a former Trump White House spokesman declared that the booking photo would be the “most manly, most masculine, most handsome mug shot of all time.” However, Trump did not ultimately have a mug shot taken when he was arraigned in Manhattan.
In June, when Trump appeared in a federal courthouse in Miami to be arraigned on charges of mishandling classified documents, Trump was once again fingerprinted but did not get a mug shot. Alina Habba, an attorney and spokeswoman for Trump, said at the time that Trump “obviously” didn’t need to have a mug shot taken because he was not a flight risk and was the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.
When Trump appeared in a federal courthouse earlier this month in Washington to plead not guilty to charges that he plotted to overturn the 2020 election, Trump was again spared a mug shot, though he was fingerprinted for the third time.
But Fulton County officials had maintained that Trump, along with the 18 other defendants indicted in the case under Georgia state laws , would be treated just as any others would during their bookings — including being processed at “Rice Street,” a nickname for the notoriously dilapidated Fulton County Jail . Leading up to Thursday, gamblers were placing bets on various aspects of the anticipated mug shot, from what Trump would wear to whether he would smile.
In Georgia, Trump was required to post a $200,000 bond , also a first among the four indictments, and released under strict conditions: He is not allowed to communicate with witnesses or co-defendants about the case, except through his lawyers, and he is barred from intimidating witnesses or co-defendants. He is also forbidden from making any “direct or indirect threat of any nature against the community or to any property in the community,” including in “posts on social media or reposts of posts” by others on social media.
Holly Bailey, Perry Stein and Shayna Jacobs contributed to this report.
